[RCSE] Torrie Pines Flying

2008-04-03 Thread David Wrinkle
Hello,

I'm going to be in La Jolla next week starting this Sunday. At this
moment I am planning on bringing my Half Pipe along. What I want to
know is it possible for visitors to fly at the Torrie Pines slope?
The website for the Gulls mentions a series of achievement's / tasks
that members need to do, and then indicates that visitors fall under a
different criteria. What that criteria is I can't seem to find. Am I
wasting my time to bring the sloper along??? Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Re: [RCSE] Getting Bombed at MOSS Field

It was a beautiful early October day at MOSS field, the little berry
patch out northeast of Columbus that our new member Gil Perez calls The
Tree Farm

We had clear blue skies, light winds, lgreat thermal lift, a handful of
club members, a few visitors to the field and spiders. Lots and lots of
SPIDERS!

I think these things are called parachute spiders. They sit in the
bushes and tree tops and spin out long lengths of spider silk, and when a
thermal comes through they go sailing off across the sky. Our planes were
coming back with hundreds of strands of spider silk (and presumably some
pretty pissed of spiders) draped across the wings.

One of the families that strolled by on their way to hike down by the
lake had two sons; so we broke out the Air Hogs and did some recruiting.
Dad and the older boy both flew air hogs successfully and I have a feeling
we may see them again.

And we got bombed. I have been wanting to experiment with bomb drop
as an event for our electric flying. I had made up some fiber board disks
about 2 1/2 in diameter, painted white with a big red X and a hole drilled
in the midde. We strapped light dowel rods to the fuselage of some planes
just aft of the wings (vertically, like little antennae) and dropped a bomb
disk onto the dowel.

The idea was to fly over the target, loop or roll or whatever, and let
the disk fall off the dowel onto the target.
The best Bill Hoelcher or I could do was about 25 yards from the target.
I am sure Gordy will have plenty advice for us about getting bombed.
Practice practice practice.

I hope you all had a good afternoon, too.

Re: [RCSE] Lovesong on EBay

I can't pass this one up. Just the other night I discovered I have a
NEW in bag Dodgeson Designs mechanical mixer. Surely someone wants
this priceless design.

I would appreciate it if you could post this link for me on the Forum

a preferred forum for the sailplane crowd.

Thanks, Tim Stone, McHenry, Il

[RCSE] 14 Years and an Hour

2006-09-17 Thread David Wrinkle

It felt good this morning despite the fact I worked at a minimum 12
thermals and all of them way down wind. I started my Level IV in 1992
and by the end of that summer I had all the contest requirements. Now
14 years later, and on my first flight of the day, I completed my 1
hour flight. (My only previous attempt was nearly two years ago. It
resulted in a 48 minute flight.) With luck, I'll sneak a 4 hour
flight in at Brookville this fall and possibly the 2k flight next
spring... Keep your collective fingers crossed

Cheers

[RCSE] LED Schematic

2000-03-15 Thread David Wrinkle

Greetings

Some time ago there was a link posted that showed a schematic of how to
wire LED's to check the status of the winch solenoids. Does anyone have
that info handy...
