Re: [RCSE] Best clear coat to use?
Mark, I used DEFT as well on my Velvia. I purchased it at the local Lowes home improvement store. Would you mind posting a flight report on the Hyper DL, I have my eye on that particular plane, and I'm wondering if it will hold up to discuss launching. I am building an Art Hobby Hyper-DL and am about to seal the wing which is foam sheeted with black poplar veneer. What would be the best clear coat to use to seal the wood? Where can I get the sealer if you know?? [RCSE] Contest Participation
All, I'm enjoying the discussion about contest participation, it must be that time of year again. I took a year off of glider competition to get into pattern flying (yeah I know). I'm also a member of a pattern discussion list like this soaring list. This very same discussion occured on the pattern list not two weeks ago. There are a great deal of simularities between glider and pattern competition, and I have found that there are many cross over pilots like myself (I see alot of familiar names on the pattern list...guys, your secret is safe with me). I like competition, each contest I go to in whatever discipline I learn alot more about flying and aircraft set-up in a day than a month of weekends fun flying. If you want to learn something new, all you have to do is ask and you will usually get more than you ask for. The bottom line is competition is something you have to really, really want to do. Some people are into it, and some are not. If you do not like flying in a specific format, with rules, having people who are better pilots beat you, and a contest director telling you when to fly, please do not go. You will not have fun. Go to a fun fly, and enjoy yourself. I agree that some of the glider formats are boring, but I'm beginning to see MOM format which is cool and I would love to try a multitask contest. BTW if you do not like people sitting right behind you, and judging your flying do not take up pattern! Greg Morris RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Bored power pilots?
There has been several posts on how flying sailplanes can help you become a better pilot. I couldn't agree more. However if you want to become one of the elite pilots you MUST learn to use the rudder (on full house ships of course). Uncouple the aileron mix and go for it. I took me about a year to become proficient (knowing which direction to push rudder while inverted without thinking too much about it). Once you start using your left thumb, you feel like you don't have full control when you switch back to coupled ailerons. Don't believe me, then give it a try. Re: [RCSE] CR's Phone Number
FOUR WEEKS HAHAHAHAHA, I have been waiting about 2 months for my Fun 1. I knew there would be a long wait going in though. Just don't get your hopes up, and be patient. Re: [RCSE] Re: Soaring V1 #1200 (epoxy to epoxy)
Silas, Off topic, but I helped build a concrete canoe in college also for an ASCE conference, It looked like something from the Flintstones, but it proudly bore the name "Ridgid Member" on the bow Greg Morris, P.E. -Original Message- From: Silas Collier [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Thursday, May 11, 2000 7:53 PM Subject: [RCSE] Re: Soaring V1 #1200 (epoxy to epoxy) Tord, I've worked with epoxy a lot and it will stick well to old epoxy. You may need to sand off the amine blush first, though some epoxies are made not to blush (I've used Aluzine surfboard resin from Fiberglass Hawaii for kayaks and wings). It also helps to get it rough first. Your concrete boat sounds like an interesting project. I was heavily involve in a concrete canoe competition in college. Our best was a 20 foot (6.1 m) long canoe that weighed a bit over 40 pounds (18.14 kg), which isn't far from a good fiberglass boat the same size. I now work as an engineer for a construction company and we bond new concrete to old with epoxy all the time. -Silas- Date: Thu, 11 May 2000 19:09:41 + (GMT) From: Tord [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: RCSE [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Re: My Towhook ... Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Epoxy only clings to epoxy perfectly if it's the same age and mix, and have cured together :-)! I once was involved in a concrete boat project where the keel was molded in one piece separately - 100% concrete and scrap iron, and reinforcement irons as per normal concrete building. Then we were about fourty guys who did the hull during one long night - a lot of manual labour, I tell you! Anyway, the new concrete would not stick to the pre-moulded concrete, so one has to use a special epoxy to glue the joint and for the joint to hold! [RCSE] Thermal Imaging
I have the perfect Thermal Imaging device, and have been using it successfully for the last 7 months. It is called a CR Climmax Pro. I throw it out and if it circles up, I have just detected rising air. If it circles down I have detected sinking air. You don't need Thermal Imaging, you need to practice.
