Re: [RCSE] Teaching a kid

2005-08-15 Thread richard reynolds
I'll let you know how it goes...

You might consider a foammy like a zagi, it will get him in the air which is
a required skill builder, and the amount of beating those can take is
amazing. So he can let his friends fly it without you cringing, even if it
doesnt come back. Doing something dad's doing with his friends is a good
thing.

 No matter
how you look at it, there can be no rational justification for that
 dumb interface.

Marketing???

IF they put a serial port on it or a USB port on it, they cant sell you an
adapter!!

sounds like justification to me ???

 22 gives a probability 99.58%.

nah more like 3 once you get more than 3 going, especially if no one brings
a 2nd TX on a different freq, though i think if one does, then it might take
4

Re: [RCSE] keep politics off the exchange

2004-10-23 Thread Richard Reynolds
Im just curious here, I know i said id post and run on this topic but ive still
been reading all the responses not to pick on *this* specific poster and ive
sniped parts I dont wanna reply to.

THERE IS NO GOVERNMENT THREAT TO OUR HOBBY!!! This

is OUR HOBBY limited to ONLY gliders? or is it also including gas/electric rc
planes. and is GOVERNMENT limited to ONLY federal government?? what about
state and local, how do you define threat??

whole thread started by one poor soul mentioning he
got interference whenever Bush was in town and was
wondering if it was related to his visits. That's
 All!!

true, but the subject isnt exactly specifically limited to the first post, look
at any mailing list/news group/ private forum the topic is often a starter to
a longer thread, useful or not. the OP probibly knew that when [s]he posted and
you probibly knew that when you signed up. and if that itself is a suprise it
happens on most threads from recievers to government threats to servos.

I fly almost every day on the center grass median of
Capital Ave. in Sacramento, a 1/2 block from the
Capital and within easy reach of Arnold's smoking
tent. I have had a few interested official looking
people check me out, but besides that they have left
 me alone.

lucky you. i tried flying in a grass field near a popular park(i had the private
owners permission in writing) which in all the laws I could find was not
illegal, and yet an hour in i had the police(well 1 unit anyway) diging thru
his book to find the law that said i couldnt fly there, anyway i was not
cited but told to leave and that was enough for me, i still have not found that
law I too had entertained a small group of people the police officer sure
didnt care about that :D btw that was with a dynaflite talon.

This is probably illegal as hell, and if I was told to
fly somewhere else I would. I seem to entertain a lot
of state worker during their lunch break. So one has
even thought that somehow I am a security risk.
snip

It may or may not be, but why dont you KNOW one way or another ???

This is a Soaring Exchange for gods sake,
snip

true but still not specifically limiting, at lest 1/2 of the responses had a tie
to some kind of rc playing. even some of the NRA stuff had good points, even if
you agree with or disagree with the NRA, they like us are a collection of people
that wanna play with toys that some people are either uneducated about, or just
scared of. two things that often drive government and laws, and they manage to
deal with the government very well.

Re: [RCSE] Security issues and R/C models

2004-10-16 Thread Richard Reynolds
I was gona stay away from this topic and i think ill still only touch it and
run!!!, for too many reasons.

With a payload capacity of less than a pound its not going to be that
effective. There's also not that much room in the fuse for that payload,
especially if you want to keep the CG within a controllable range.

i fly 2 completely DIY planes with more than 6lbs of additional cargo in the
form of camera,gps,image/gps data transmiter,additional batteries,autopilot they
are not gliders but they are small electric powered 50 and 80 wingspans with
single cheapo 400 motors. the glide ratio is awesome intentionally because i
dont photo with the motor on. but for a full glider a different launching device
would be required but shouldnt require a lot of thought considering I WILL NOT
highstart/winch launch a $500 camera and $$$ in accesseries)

thats my touch and here i run :D

Re: [RCSE] Need some help winding up my hi start.

2004-08-30 Thread Richard Reynolds
I wind the rubber up first to get a larger dia. hub to wind the nylon string up
faster, but alas, its way too slow for this aging flyer. Any out there with a
better idea including some type of power rig. I thought about some type of
spool that I could put on a cordless drill motor. Any Help out there?

another not quite the answer

but if you mark the middle and wind from the middle you have 1/2 the winding to
do.

also you can get spools and cordless drills that will work, if you cant find the
spool you want then you can always make one.
