Been a while since I've 'assembled' a new plane which didn't already have
the pushrods installed. In fact, I was surprised to find my new 2-m
Organic doesn't have them, but what the heck.

So, living in small town USA where most people think quot;radio
controlquot; means
receiving instructions by HAM, I'm looking for a good source for some long
sheathed cf pushrods. What is your favorite source?

I always wonder why one doesn't just
set the starting bid at their minimum.

Because starting the bidding at a lower price often results in a
higher final price than if you just start out at your
minimum acceptable price. I know it sounds silly but it works.

Re:[RCSE] Cash Prizes

2002-02-12 Thread georgeg

My club does this in our monthly contests. Our entry fee is $ 5.00 and we award
$1.00/entry for first, $ 0.50/entry for second and $ 0.25/entry for third. We round
all amounts up to the next dollar and award at least $5.00 if the entry level is too
small to make the normal prize up to $ 5.00. It works well, we don't have to have
trophys engraved every month and even with small contests, the club makes some money.
The downside, is the people coming up in the hobby don't get a chance to collect the
dust collectors (trophys) they might otherwise cherish.

Just wondering how people feel about the idea of cash prizes?

In my experience, the brightest flash comes from using strips of chrome trim
monokote. The hologram material doesn't flash as brightly and some of it is
too thick to readily conform to the leading edge of your wing.

Try : Spitfires Thunderbolts and Warm Beer. Its about an American Eagle

pilot (W.W.II not Commuter land) Good reading. I cant remember the man who

wrote it but its available at Barnes and Noble.

The author is Philip D. Caine. Fascinating book. I had never known that the
RAF had a training facility here in Bakersfield, CA in 1941.

Re: [RCSE] **WANTED** 3 Function Sailplane

2000-05-22 Thread georgeg

I am looking for a "Good" 3 Function Glider with Spoilers like a Gemeni or

something thats good for a 3 Function Contest.. must be over 100" Wingspan

if Possible Gnome 3 M would work or any good Contest Worthy Sailplane that

has Spoilers and not to Heavy thanks..

There is a limited production kit being made by a member of my club that would
fill
your request quite nicely. The plane is called the "War Eagle" (the guys from
TOSS
called it the War Beagle). Built-up wings (laser cut ribs), fiberglass fuse,

v-tail. Controls are rudder, elevator (v-tail mixing required) and spoiler

(operated by a micro servo in each wing). Airfoil is a 3021 (thickened at
the
root). The plane is rock steady on launch and takes a pedal to the metal launch

quite easily. It is the best RES ship I've ever flown. We had three of them
at the
CVRC Bent Wing contest this weekend and managed to get Wargles (my nickname
for the
bird) in 3rd, 12th and 33rd out of 44 entries. I finished 12th, after being
as high
as first after Rd 1 (well, tied for first) and third after Rd 8, but an absolutely

terrible last flight dropped me to 12th), not bad for a borrowed plane I had
only
flown for two prior weekends. I've seen the plans and they are quite good.
 I don't
know what the instructions are like or even if he has any instructions written
up.
If you know anyone who flew in the CVRC contest, ask them if they saw the War
Eagle,
I know a lot of people were looking at the planes and asking questions. For

information on kit availabilty and price, contact Amos Kleinsasser @ (661)
872-8837.
Oh yes, the wing rod is a staight 1/2" rod, Amos supplies an aluminum rod
but I
think a Squires steel rod is better or if you're worried about weight, you
can buy a
carbon rod from Matt Gewain at CST. This is a super flying RES ship and with

practice could be fairly competitive against the full house ships.

Interested parties contact
me for more info.

In case anyone doesn't know where Bakersfield is, thats in California. Come

have a good time.

Re: [RCSE] XC and building season.

1999-12-02 Thread georgeg

I was in one of those home stores the other day and was looking at the
Formica counter top veneers. They sure have a nice selection of colors and

patterns. Anyone ever try using this stuff to sheet a wing?
It looks to be about 1/64 thick and has a sort of brown backing.
Stick it on the foam and you are done. Finish, color and pattern is done

in one step. Any comments?

I would think it would be VERY heavy and probably brittle but it would be an
interesting experiment.
