Re: [RCSE] Tree Stories

2008-02-04 Thread Kurt Zimmerman
What I have enjoyed about these "Tree Stories" is the fact that they are
REAL... There is no element of competition involved. The best thing is
that they are GREAT conversation... they are out of the norm and they
all bring a smile to each one's face.

Don't get me wrong, competition is a lot of fun. Tree stories are GREAT
CONVERSATION!

Thanks for sharing those great stories

Let me dig into my graying archive to see if there is something else to
share.

[RCSE] Tree Stories

2008-02-01 Thread Dan Ashenfelter
It's good to know that others have felt as foolish as I, when several years
ago I parked my brother's Electrasoar in the top of a very large tree. This
airplane had a pretty flat glide as long as the speed was maintained.

Needless to say, I was making a long approach and thought myself well past
the tree---WRONG!

To complicate matters the tree stood directly over a pen in which stood a
rather nervous Hereford bull.

Every time the radio glitched and the electric motor burped the bull got
even more nervous. The bull's owner was not thrilled and I couldn't really
blame her. After a number of attempts with a large and quite heavy steel nut
tied to a length of line we finally managed to loop it over a branch. The
plane eventually dropped out of the tree and amazingly did not sustain heavy
damage.

It's a helpless feeling trying to rescue someone else's plane from a tree
while a ton of nervous beef is watching.

Dan

[RCSE] Tree Stories

2008-02-01 Thread Tom Nagel

Guys:

I have really enjoyed the Tree Stories. First, they remind me of the
incredible variety of ways that we as a group have found to screw up process
of launching and flying RC sailplanes.

And secondly, the stories all make me feel a whole lot less stupid than
I normally appear. (Did I word that correctly? I think not. Never mind.)
