Re: [RCSE] Carbon flying stab rods.

I do not believe the difference in weight justifies the use of carbon rods
for stab joiners. CF rod in shear situations is not as strong as steel. My
opinion.

[RCSE] Carbon flying stab rods.

1999-12-16 Thread Peter S Carr

Greetings to all! Having lost a ship to a failed stab at Cumberland this
year, I'm somewhat concerned about stab strength. I have 2 questions for
the group.

1st question: I'm assembling a Whyte Wings Sapphire which supplies carbon
stab rods. The instructions want me to sand the rods to fit the tubes.
Will this technique weaken the rods and allow them to snap?

2nd question: Is the difference in weight between carbon and piano wire
enough to justify its use? I wonder if a reliable rod is worth the extra
nose weight.

Any comments?

Thanks to all.
