Re: [RCSE] MOM scoring software

Take a look at <>. It works well for us in
the ESL. It can even be made to support seeded man-on-man by selecting the
seeded groups manually from the cumulative standings after each round and then
entering the seeded group # along with each contestants score (overriding
the randomly generated group # by the program) in the subsequent round. Good
Lift!

I'll get to that after I steal Bob Schiedt's brain and map it into a
neural network, fashion a bust of his head, install a computer inside of
it, and have it eat people's scoresheets at contests. You *do not* want
to see where the printer goes!

All kidding aside, this appears to be a topic that induces much
head-scratching and hand-wringing. Suprising then, that I didn't find
much info or many examples via Google. Then again, the word "mom" is
too generic, and "man-on-man" brings up some REALLY interesting sites.
In the end, I'll be sure to share with the group what I find.

(And for those of you wondering, the scoring at the MidSouths isn't up
to me - I'm just interested in how people do it, and being a web
developer/programmer, I salivate at a good complicated design challenge)

Thanks again!

Many attempts at doing MOM with computer fail because of adequate
preparation and backup process, always in case the first fails.

I am a firm believer that a MOM contest can be run quicker than
manual scoring. I just have not seen the software that can do it yet.

With larger displays getting cheaper I can see a contest as large as
the NATS to be run as a seeded MOM contest.

It's possible.

Ben,
The best program for seeded MOM is a good calculator and someone who

with cards and the right person or two can do.

Not the answer you wanted, but I have watched guys try to work this
out on a computer and all they did was cause a constipated contest.

[RCSE] MOM scoring software

2006-05-31 Thread Ben Wilson
Anyone have any scoring software or Excel sheets that handle MOM
scoring? I've trolled through the RCSE Archives
(http://www.mail-archive.com/soaring@airage.com/) and found only a few
scattered comments.

Anyone care to point me in the right direction?

Thanks.
