[RCSE] New Member with a question
Fellow soarers... I'm new to the list and fairly new to soaring. I've been flying now for about six months and am already thinking about investing in another thermal chaser. My first investment, and probably not my wisest, was in the Great Planes Spirit 2-Meter. It's not been a bad learning plane overall and I've had the opportunity to speck it a couple of times... but here's the delema. We usually get together and fly at a nearby farm (about 20 minutes away) when my local soaring club goes out. But, what about all the times that I want to go flying and don't want to travel to the farm? Well, my fiance and I are getting ready to move into a new apartment that has a SMALL field behind it (more like a large grassy knoll - me being the second gunman smile) and I'm thinking that I could probably put a sailplane down in this area. It's getting it up that will be the challenge. So, I've been looking around at some electric powered thermal chasers and a friend of mine through our club, Jack Gross, recommended that I ask the opinion of this list before making my purchase. ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!! Here's a couple that I've found that fit my taste: http://www.hobby-lobby.com/jrplus.htm and http://www.amd.org.hk/cata/scorpio.htm Anyone with any advice on these aircraft, or with opinions on some that are better --- please respond... Thanks in advance!!! Klint Holland Great Planes Spirit 2-Meter RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send subscribe and unsubscribe requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [RCSE] New Member with a question
Klint, Hand launch! L little zip start (or a DLG). That is the way to go. You will learn more from a hand launch than any other type of thermalling. Yes, it requires some work, but with DLG, it is really not that bad. Plus you can always us a small zip start. The other good things. HLGs won't cause property damage unless you go really ballistic with it! It has NO noise. It requires a lot less investment in most cases. And they are cool :) Jason - Original Message - From: Klint Holland [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, June 13, 2001 5:31 PM Subject: [RCSE] New Member with a question Fellow soarers... Re: [RCSE] new member RE: vision problem
Mario, Really nice web site and the slope site (DOLOMITI MOUNTAINS - ITALY) is no small deal either. Sure beats the central Texas hill country. I can't believe that a cell phone would have an effect on a decent RC receiver. The frequency (both analog and digital) is Very far removed from the RC band and the output power is not so much as to swamp anything that is more than a few inches away. Chuck (I'll settle for a Zagi just to get up in those mountains) Sparks Mario Marzocchi wrote: From: Mario Marzocchi ( Florence- Italy ) ___ ! If You want to see some beautiful saring photo: big gliders and the fantastic Dolomiti mountains, take a look at my web site and let me know what you think about it. Vision problem. I have carried my cell phone for moore than one year and I never had problem with it. On saturday I was flying near Florence with my 3.5 m Fox while a friend of mine called me to ask about the way to the slope. I spoke to him about 3 minutes without any problem. I heard about some problems with cell phone. It looks like that sometimes cell phones change the transmitter settings, may be this happens rarely.
