Jack Strother Congratulations to Marc Gellart the 2006 OVSS overall winner! This guywas on fire all year with three 1st place finishes. He was tough to beat, Iknow from flying against him all the time. Interesting also was his weaponof choice: The Insanity. This plane has great hang time! Congratulations also to OVSS Overall Sportsman winner Pat Crosby ! You arean expert now, as you proved Sunday by finishing 3rd place. The weather started off cold and foggy both days but warmed up into the70's. The sky was a hazy blue with piercing sun and no clouds all weekend. The weird thing was there was there was hardly any wind if any at times. Thethermals were few and far apart both days so you could really get in troubleif you did not find some good air to work soon after launch. Another strangeanomaly that occured both days was the appearance of the floating spiderwebs. As the air warmed up so did the amount of webs and strands in the airby the thousands! Sometimes it got so thick it was good for reading thermalsand you could also see the shape created by the lift. Neat stuff. PaulSherman flew with gusto all weekend taking his Espada to the limits of thefield and working some really light air to earn him 2nd and 1st placefinishes. Rich Burnoski dominated Saturday with his Espada RL for the win.It was a really challenging 2 days of flying and this always makes for amore fun and interesting contest. It has been a another great year of flying in the OVSS contest series. The Man-On-Man format is alot of fun and it really makes it a soaringcontest (as opposed to landing) contest. Thanks to all the clubs and CD'sand people who hosted the events. Also a big thank you to John Diniz, MarcGellart, Horizon and JR for their donations and time. Can't wait until next year! [RCSE] OVSS Fall Round Up Day 1
What a great weekend of soaring in Muncie! Saturday's contest started at 10:00 a.m. and we finished up just a few minutes before 6:00 p.m. We flew 7 rounds, first round a warm up of 10 minutes (in launch and hang in very light stuff), then 6 rounds of 13 minutes. It was tough early, fairly easy midday, and tough from 4:30 on, (ask the top 2 groups which were really shuffled about, except for the top 2). Rich Burnowski came out on top with 7492 points. Paul Sherman second with 7462 points. Bill Wingstedt was third, followed by Ron Kukral and Jack Strothers. Top Sportsman was Ron Allen who finished 11th overall. We had one flyer complete their 15 minute LSF II task flight. We in LOFT allow flyers going for LSF tasks to declare and then set a new target task for them (in this case 16 minutes) and normalize off that time. Everyone cheered when Lee touched down 1 second off, and with a level 2 landing. 28 flyers in 4 flight groups kept the day busy. Thanks to all the midwest guys for supporting OVSS. A more fun group to fly with you won't find anywhere! Complete results from both days will be on the website later this week. http://www.loftrc.org/ Denny Zech CD Day 1 RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. And congrats to Karl Miller for first on Saturday and second on Sunday making him overall weekend champ flying his woobie Victory C. That plane is so old I can't remember how many years he has been flying it, he knows it like the back of his hand. There was just some awesome flying going on...
