Actually the F3B style contest was almost the norm in Northern California from 
the late 60's through the 70's ... I can remember a lot of South Bay contest 
like that :-) And the money in the hat spot landing:)

I remember because my Dad who was not much of a pilot won several of those 
contest because he had this German glider that was fast as hell and thermaled 
pretty good too...  He once drove over the wings with his 63 Falcon and did no 
damage to them.. Try that with one of your moldies! 

WOW... I can still remember... Must not of taken enough drugs in the 80's :-))))

The 1979 LSF Tournament in Lockport, IL also used the three  task 
format.  I flew in that one and didn't like it any better than I 
did  when I flew F3B in 1976.
