Seems like brand loyality has a little to do with it. One poster mentioned something
like "I got the 555, but I was really
disappointed that I couldn't go with radio company name here. Doesn't make a lot of
sense, seeing as the 555 has proven itself to
be pretty bullet proof, and is inexpensive too.

RE: [RCSE] Receiver Madness

The situation I'm in is that I fly using the Ham band freqs (50 MHz) and
Hitec stopped producing rx with the Ham freqs. So I'm left with the major
manufacturers of receivers and RC Direct (Berg 6 rx). I don't want to
revert back to 72 MHz, unless I really have too (in other words, the rx
manufacturers stop producing ham band rx). BTW, I personally don't have to
have the latest and greatest, just good performance, function, reasonably
priced, and durable.

FYI, I use Hitec, Berg, and Airtronics rx's. All has worked well in every
application I required them for (slope, HLG, F3B). I'm looking at getting a
JR in the near future, and it doesn't have to be the latest model.

This pursuit of the latest receiver seems crazy to me. What is this madness?

If I need a small Rx, I use a Hitec 535 or 555.

If I need more than 5 channels, I use a standard Hitec or the "slim" model.

If I need smaller than small, I remove the case from a 535 or 555.

If I've want to waste money, I buy from the major manufacturers.

With the exception of a few special applications (super light, super big,
etc.), why do folks so eagerly search for the latest receiver to hit the
market.

The place where you least want to take chances is the receiver. A receiver
has
to have a few years of good reports before I'll even consider trying it.
Hitec
is proven reliable, reasonably priced and even supported well by the
manufacturer. Why are folks so eager to try the latest fad??? Seems crazy to
me. I'm confused.
