Re: [RCSE] Retriever Line Question??

If you are concerned about the string burning your fingers, send me your snail
mail address and I'll send you a tape showing you our hand free retriever.
Just push a pickle switch at the same time that you would normally grab the
string and wrap it around the bike hub on the old big wheel retrievers. Our
retriever does that automatically. Used at the Phoenix winter soaring contest
this last February.

Double Uni-knot works fine for Spectra. Use the same knot for Monofilament.

SPECTRA line on a retriever?? Anyone have experience using Spectra on a
retriever??

I have found a few loop knots that will work on the ends, BUT if you
should ever have to splice it? What type of knot will hold?? Is
there any knots that will hold without putting a sleeve over line first???

Here are several web pages describing that knot, but be sure to have a bottle
of aspirin handy:

Re: [RCSE] Retriever Line Question??

2005-06-05 Thread Michael Lachowski
It's not that hard. Both sides of the knot are identical. Make a loop
in the first line with the second line going through that loop. Wrap
the first line in the first loop 4-5 times. Pull it so it's almost tight.

Repeat for the second line. Then pull both lines to slide the knots
together and tighen them up.

If you do a good job, the wraps will be nicely lined up and neatly
wrapped in a row on each side of the knot. Leave about an inch of loose
line. The knot will tighen up a little more with use.

It's a lot easier to demonstrate than it is to describe how you tie it.

Lee, We also considered using something like spectra for a retreiver
until one of our guys thought about the accident potential. Braided
nylon (or is it dacron, I never can remember until I get out the Memphis
catalog) can be dangerous so we always wear a good glove. Spectra would
go through a hand like a hot knife through butter! We gave up and never
tried the stuff. Someone else might have tried it. What do others think
about the safety issue??
