Re: [RCSE] Virus Alert---HOAX
it has something to do with converting long filenames and so on. Check out http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/hoaxes/hoax5.asp?HName=SULFNBK+Hoax for the full story. In my many years of being on the net, I have never actually seen a true virus alert that says you have to do this and that. Always check it you recieve mails that look suspicious. And yes, virus alerts are suspicious. [RCSE] Virus Alert Iwas hit 3 times tonight
Just be carefull out there. I got hit 3 times tonight from Hahaha something about snow white the real story. It had an attachment warf4you.exe and in it was a virus w95.hybris.gen I had the latest Norton file and it caught it. Scanning it didn't catch it till I tried to execute it. I tried to inform the person who sent it to me and it bounced back no such address on file. --- Larry Taylor --- E-mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- .Web Site: http//www.home.earthlink.net/~cvrcsoaring/cvrc.htm --- Contest Director for the Fall Soaring Festival 2001, Oct. 6th & 7th
Re: [RCSE] Virus alert!
Yeah, my scanner trapped it too. I warned Lee about the virus immediately. - Original Message - From: "Geoff Sokoll" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Patrick Sloan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: "RCSE" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, July 04, 2000 6:57 AM Subject: Re: [RCSE] Virus alert! > > Norton keeps trying to quarantine my inbox file and I can > > not tell which email contained the virus. > > hmmm, that'll be Lee Estingoy's post about kevlar. Coincidently, the same one that Tord complained about getting lots of HTML garbage in ("lots of info about your regedit.exe, autoexe.bat and other Windows nonsense")... look at http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/wscript.kakworm.html if you're interested. [RCSE] Virus alert!
Sorry for the broad alert. but today with the responses from my questions to RCSE I received what norton thinks is a virus. It reports it as "WScript.KakWorm". Norton keeps trying to quarantine my inbox file and I can not tell which email contained the virus. I use Netscape for mail and as far as I know there are not many worm type virus that effect Netscape mail. Thanks for all that responded to my questions I fear that I will have to delete the mail I received today to stop this virus alert from quarantining my inbox.I read most of the mail using yahoo mail from my work isp, so I had a chance to see most the mail. If you answered one of my questions please take action and check that you are not infected. Please note that I was not the originator of the virus, I am just reporting it as a potential problem for other list members. Regards Pat. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
