3. Cody Remington (Junior) - 6118 ($750)
2. Arend Borst 6397 ($1250)
1. Mike Smith 6793 ($2500)

Mike Smith had 3 1000's, a 999, a 960-something and 708 to finish up.

The last rounds of flying were some of the most exciting I've ever
witnessed - you truly didn't know who was going to win until the very end.

Congratulations everyone! Thanks to all the sponsors: LSF, JR, Castle
Creations, Horizon, Kennedy Composites, and I'm sure I'm leaving some out.

My final post live from the AMA Flying Site - hope everyone enjoyed, I
know I did ;)

RE: [RCSE] World Soaring Masters: Finals are FINAL

2006-09-24 Thread George Voss
Ben, Thanks for taking the time to inform those of us that are 'home bound'
this weekend. Looking at the scores and considering the talented flyers in
the top 10, the scores seem very unusual. The 10th place flyers score is
only 67% of the winners score. This is a very low percentage in my opinion.
Even the 5th place finishers score is seems low at ~84% of the winner's
score especially considering they are flying MOM. There is over 6 1/2
minutes worth of points separating the first and second place winner.

Don't take these comments as darts to the finishers, they are not.
Personally, I think the Soaring Masters is a great idea and is flown
utilizing a great format. Thanks to all of the sponsors for their support
and to all of the modelers who were able to come to Muncie, fly their best
and put RC soaring on the map as a Major Modeling Venue.

As for the purse, it is a great idea and I'm sure the pilots appreciate a
cash return. However, the money returned in no way can cover what most of
us have invested in this hobby (can I get an up in here from the Icon
flyers? :-)) I'd gather Mike Smith will have spent upwards of $1500 for the
trip to Muncie from SoCal, not counting the investment in planes, support
equipment etc.

Again, Congrats to all who were able to attend, Ben Wilson for keeping the
rest of us informed from round-to-round and to rest of the 78 pilots who
were there for the top 10 to beat. If it wasn't for them, it really
wouldn't be much of a championship.

I'd like to see a 2M event similar to the Masters. I know there is a
love/hate for 2M planes among our group. A very good Midwest pilot once
told me he flew a 2M only for a year. He said if you can fly a 2M against
an unlimited plane and win consistently, you'll do better when flying your
unlimited plane...he would know as he finished in the top 20 of the Masters.

Ben...

Absolutely GREAT reporting job! I thought I was bummed at missing the NATs
this year, now I know what bummed really feels like, after playing your
reports through my mind, and seeing if all from afar! Congratulations to
ALL the contestants - I really wish I could have been there to cheer all of
you on!

Thanks Ben, Gordy, et al.

For the coverage. Outstanding, thank you for taking the time for the rest of
us. It nice to have such close to real time coverage. Hard to travel to
many contests so this type of reporting is a real treat.

Looking forward to the pictures.

Good lift,

Tom
