Nylon being hygroscopic will absorb up ~8% water. The addition of water allows the material's long chain molecular structure to stretch to a greater degree without breaking. The other benefit is that the line will return to a greater degree back to it's original length. This becomes critical in FAI where line length needs to be some value than 150M...just in case officialdom wants to measure your line length.
