Re: [RCSE] PayPal scam alert! Read if you have a PayPal account!

2004-03-06 Thread martinusher

Its a class of scam called a "phish", there are quite a lot around.

Two things to lookout for..

1) The don't address you by nameanything "Dear User" is suspect.
2) They all need you to click on a link in the mail.

Don't click on links in Emails --- copy and paste to a new browser window. Don't give out personal information on web forms that came with Email, if the company wantsthat informationthat badly they can call you.

There is a particularily nasty form of phish you have to be really careful of. The first generation is just a forgery of a company website. Thenew generation use a pop-up form over the top of a relevant page from the legitimate company website. You have to be really on the ball to spot them.

I get those all the time.

I like the ease of use with PayPal (once registered) and of course, anyone
with an email address can send/receive money. I just sent in my annual CASL
club dues with it.

I was skeptical at first, but I have been using it for about five months now
and love it. It is free, fast, secure and you have a great record of your
transgressions, err... transactions. Regis
