Re: [Soekris] unable to contact net4801 over console
Hi Jan, Tha cable is as the recommended once. We have tested both on Windows Hyper Terminal, and also on a linux with minicom, but the result is the same. Med venlig Hilsen/Best regards Mads N. [Soekris] unable to contact net4801 over console
Hi There, I'm struggling a bit to connect to a net4801. We have bought it 1 1/2 year ago, but have never been able to connect to it. When connect to a terminal 19200 baud 8n1 no flow control, nothing happens. Whn turned on, there is light in the error LED and the power led. Both the null modem cable and the PC we are using has succesfully made a console connection to other devices, so we do not think they are the problem. If you have any advice, they would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Med venlig Hilsen/Best regards Mads N. If it doesn't boot off your current flash I'd upgrade. ;) If everything works I wouldn't touch it. joel Maxim Khitrov wrote: > Hello all, > > The changelog [1] doesn't mention BIOS version 1.33c. I have really no idea how that geometry stuff works, but I had similar problems with some industrial cf cards (the geometry was different from how the Soekris BIOS saw it because it was partitioned on a PC and installing a bootloader, GRUB in my case, failed, resulting in "No boot device" errors). For me, _both_ repartitioning with correct CHS values (as described in http://wiki.soekris.info/What_is_this_disk_geometry_thing ) and reinstalling GRUB always fixed the problem. tty, 686f6cd ___ Soekris-tech mailing list Soekris-tech@lists.soekris.com http://lists.soekris.com/mailman/listinfo/soekris-tech

AFAIK. Except, of course, for CHS, where sector 0 is sector 1... I agree that "No Boot device" is unlikely to be a geometry issue. If the BIOS POST output is inspected it will show if the device is found at all. If the Soekris BIOS LBA functions works it shouldn't be that hard to modify the nanobsd build script to be able to use GPT partitioning instead of MBR, which would permanently solve geometry problems. ___ Soekris-tech mailing list Soekris-tech@lists.soekris.com http://lists.soekris.com/mailman/listinfo/soekris-tech
Re: [Soekris] Problems booting from transcend 2GB CF in net4801 after bios upgrade
What does bootdrive option say after the upgrade? Does the CF card get detected upon BIOS post? Taken from the wiki: BootDrive = 80 81 F0 FF (default: 80 81 F0 (FF)) (values: can be any combination of 80, 81, F0. 80=first drive/hd0, 81=second drive/hd1, F0=pxe/network.) which devices to boot from, in that order. note that you have 4 "slots" and empty slots will be shown as "FF", so if you "set BootDrive=80", it will show as "BootDrive = 80 FF FF FF". //Bjarke On Thu, Apr 23, 2009 at 3:18 PM, Rick van der Zwet wrote: > After a bios upgrade from (1.27a -> 1.33) my Trancend CompactFlash 2GB > 120x is no longer bootable, stating the error: > > No Boot device available, enter monitor. > > Downgrading to 1.31 or 1.30 did not fix it either.
