Re: [Soekris] Net6501 location of SATA ports
Hi all, thanks so much for all your great replies and explanations! I just installed the drive and all is working very nicely from what I can tell so far. Robin ___ Soekris-tech mailing list Soekris-tech@lists.soekris.com http://lists.soekris.com/mailman/listinfo/soekris-tech

Hi List, Christian Weisgerber wrote: I don't expect Soekris to comment on 32 bs 64-bit, because the Intel CPUs used in the net6501 officially do not support 64-bit mode. Yes, it happens to work fine, but that's not something you can guarantee, much less advertise. Now that public attention has been drawn to the issue, I wonder if Soeren might have to "fix" it. Oh well. I have talked with Intel about it, but haven't managed to get any clear authoritive answer More like, yes, 64 bit is enabled, but we don't support the use of it ??? I don't think it will be dropped, some of Intel's NDA'ed embedded roadmaps have the E6xx series supporting 64 bit mode, but all released docs have the E6xx as 32 bit only. The only thing worrying me is if it's not tested so some parts may fail, but then, if the CPUID "Intel 64" bit are set then they kinda have to test it And no, I can't do anything to affect it, either in the board hardware or BIOS, it's down in the processor core. Now that Intel has announced the new Silvermont Atoms with all the goodies (AES-NI, RDRAND, and of course 64-bit mode), I'm wondering how long it will take for these to trickle through to Soekris-format boxes. Will be the net6801, but no firm schedule yet from Intel. If you're having someone locate them on the board, they are right next to one another with the outermost (SATA Port 0 Connector) labeled J1 and the other (SATA Port 1 Connector) labeled J2. The SATA Power Connector on the board (there's only one) is labeled J18 and is located near the SATA connectors, next to them (though there is a mounting hole immediately between them) on the same edge of the board where the PCI connector also juts out. Re: [Soekris] Net6501 location of SATA ports
Robin, The SATA ports are on the corner of the board opposite the corner with the reset button and power connector. In other words, put the board face up in front of you with the power connector facing you. The SATA ports are on the top left corner. They're labelled J1 and J2. For SATA power, you'll need an adapter like that sold with the Soekris HDD mounting kit (http://soekris.com/products/net6501/2-5-sata-hard-drive-mounting-kit-for-the-net6501-std.html). I think my board came with this power adapter, but I could be mistaken. The power connector is a 5 pin connector labelled JP18. It's located along the edge between the SATA ports and the PCIe slot, closest to the SATA ports. -Peter On 5/17/2013 10:22 AM, Robin Kipp wrote: Hello all! Thus, I was just wondering if someone on here could be kind enough to tell me where abouts they are? In case this won't work out I could as well ask someone, in this case it would be really great for me to know if the ports are labelled in any way so I know what I have to ask for. Thanks a lot, any help would be greatly appreciated! :-) Best wishes, Robin. ___ Soekris-tech mailing list Soekris-tech@lists.soekris.com http://lists.soekris.com/mailman/listinfo/soekris-tech
