I have a VirtualBox VM on my laptop to serve as a PXE server, it took about 10 minutes to set up and now I always have a PXE server at hand. :) Firas ___ Soekris-tech mailing list Soekris-tech@lists.soekris.com http://lists.soekris.com/mailman/listinfo/soekris-tech

Really it's not, it saves a lot of rebooting the machine with the CF hard drive adapter and swapping cards around (which can be fiddly - you might like to leave a little tab of tape sticking out to use as a handle). If you do use the swap-cards-around method don't forget to set things up to use a serial console otherwise you'll have to put the card back in the other machine and edit /etc/ttys and /etc/boot.conf. ___ Soekris-tech mailing list Soekris-tech@lists.soekris.com http://lists.soekris.com/mailman/listinfo/soekris-tech
Re: [Soekris] Install OpenBSD on net4501 with a compact flash?
That's the beauty of the generic kernel. Anywhere the (i386, in this case) kernel will run, it will run. One caveat: I install OpenBSD onto compact flash from a USB compact flash reader. During install, it is seen (usually) as sd1, but when I move the card into the 4501, it is seen as wd0. Just mount the CF card after the install and adjust /etc/fstab accordingly. Re: [Soekris] Install OpenBSD on net4501 with a compact flash?
What you are describing we have done on over a dozen 4501's You need to change the /etc/boot.conf and the /etc/ttys file before you put the cf card in the net4501 if you want to use the serial port. Hi folks, I've looked all over the web for a tutorial on installing OpenBSD on a compact flash to be used in a net4501. I've found a few tutorials using the PXE boot method, but that seems pretty cumbersome. I already have a box with a CF hard drive adapter and a CD drive that I can use to install OpenBSD to the CF (like what I've heard other people do), but I have a question - 1.) If I use this box to perform the installation to the CF, won't I likely get a kernel panic when I remove the CF from the first box and plug it into the Soekris because the hardware config on the box I'm installing the OS to (initially) is a completely different hardware configuration than the Soekris??? 2.) Does anyone know of a good tutorial / method to install without needing to do the PXE boot method???
