[Soekris] New Soekris?

2009-01-28 Thread Sargun Dhillon
So, I read this article:
http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/01/27/143203 on slashdot.
This is slightly disconcerting. They aren't going to release any new
Geode processors. Does Soekris have a roadmap for new devices over the
next 3 years? Keep in mind, they aren't going to kill the current line
for a while, so we have at least 2-3 years. I just want to make sure my
favorite embedded products vendor has a plan.

The only choice for x86 I think. An ARM is probably nicer, but probably
supports less Operating Systems out of the box. There seems to be an
OpenBSD port so I'd be satisfied.

No, there will be no new Geodes, the architecture is running out of
life But the Geode LX used on the net5501 are going to be available
until at least 2016, according to AMD docs.

And I am working on new boards, had actually started on a VIA
C7M/Nano/VX800 board design, but then the communication with VIA died
up, zip, nada, like emailing into a black hole Can't design a
product on that, what if I run into a chip bug ? They don't seems
interested in the smaller guys.

I'm now looking a other options from AMD and Intel, have great
communication and NDA access with both, and those new netbook/nettop
parts are just perfect for the net6501

I regularly take a round looking at ARM, MIPS, SH, PowerPC and whatever
come around, but they just don't have the broad support and top to
bottom range of parts like the x86

 Hey,

Does this mean, that there is a good chance for a soekris board with an
 intel atom cpu?

Nothing is firm yet, but the Atom is at the top of my short list
