When Softimage can get a license, you won't see anything from
FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS=3
The license manager should show what licenses are checked out.

If you really wanted to see what license Softimage interactive tries to check
out, you'd have to stop the license server and then start Softimage with

Softimage 2015 SP1 will cascade through the licenses like this:

So I'm guessing you just need to get the 2016 license from AD.

Hi list,

while trying to check out a batch license, I get the following errors
(after setting “ FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS to 3”) as attached to this mail.

Weird thing is FlexLM seems to want to check out “86269SFTIMSIB_2016_0F” ,
which (due to the EOL) doesn’t exist...

That kind of works. Thing is I have to quickly expand the second object to
surround the particles so they dont die when flying out of the volume.

Would be nice with a built in plug and play trigger for emission. I will
see if I can make it work for me.

Thanks guys

Re: How to emit particles from intersection between volumes?

2015-12-09 Thread peter_b
Just thinking out loud here - so possibly none of it works.

You can drive a weightmap on a surface by proximity to an object and use it as
filter on an emission.
this looks kind of like an intersection (ok distance and intersection isn’t the
same thing...)

you could make something more accurate by doing a raycast from one object to
the other along the normal – which would tell you where one object is inside
the other – and again drive a weightmap with that.
I’m guessing inside filter by volume you’d find all the logic you need to do
this the right way?

Now I don’t think weightmap filters work with volumes out of the box – without
having a look, I think the filter is based on emitlocation and you don’t get
one with a volume - but you could set the closest location as emitlocation and
circumvent this.

If you’re adventurous, you could try a boolean intersection between both
objects and use that as emitter?

I am trying to initiate particle emission from the volume of an object by

Hi Morten,
Could you emit by volume using both pieces of geometry as an emitter,
then do "Point in Volume" tests for both and delete any points that
don't succeed in both tests?

The Softimage that is boundled with 2016 products is called Softimage 2015
(SP2) R2. R2 menas it will use 2016 licenses, H instead of G in product key.

Sorry, I understood your mail. The point I was trying to make was that others
should probably speak up, if they experience the same problem.
I understand there is nothing much you can do for me if it is a problem that
only affects me.
But if there is some bug lurking in the background, more reports would
undoubtably help.
Sorry for the confusion, I didn't intentionally wanted to misrepresent your

Hi Leendert,

I think you misunderstood my response. My intention was not to imply that your
report carried no weight otherwise why would we have already escalated your
issue with the dev team, even before you contacted us?

My point was as you were not going through the normal support channels we could
not help you if the problem is with your setup. As I mentioned in my email, we
will keep you posted if our engineers find an issue/solution on our end.

Leendert,

Is your install base strictly Softimage or is it a suite? I presume whatever it
is it must be installed from a 2016 package?

There was a warning somewhere that said the two versions should not be
installed at the same time. Is it possible you have both installed somehow?

When I run xsibatch here using the 2015 version, it tells me it is checking
out:

===
 Autodesk Softimage 13.0.114.0
===

License information: using [86269SFTIMSIB_2015_0F]

I don't have SI 2016 R2 installed.

If your version is looking to something with 2016 license code in it, it must
be the SI 2016 R2 version that you are trying to run?

The reason I ask is that since the SI 2015 SP2 package is supposed to be
identical (?) to the SI 2016 R2 package, it might be possible to uninstall the
2016 version and install the 2015 one that way the 2015 software might only
look for licenses with "2015" in it. Maybe that will let you get production
going till the problem is sorted out?

The Softimage 15 R2 interface runs though, correct? Even though your license
