Hi Morten, how did the RollRug thing
  work?

there is also PB_Bendset from Probiner which
  probably has more elaborate control.

one and where to find it?

RE: Space Mouse for XSI

2016-06-15 Thread Sven Constable
seems there was a problem with the mail server. The reply was from Francois
Lord, not myself.

They improved the drivers and the handling of the space mice btw., so you might
want to try your space pilot with the newest driver. If it would work in XSI
the same way as in the demo viewer, it would be really useful. It adjusts the
speed of the camera movement relative to the distance to the camera target.
The target will get automatically projected on the objects surface in the
middle of a viewport so you will always orbit around the part you're looking
at. But as said it works not exactly this way in XSI. It positions the target
only if you select something (sub components works though).

I won a SpacePilot several years ago and was very impressed with the hardware,
much less with the drivers. The main problem I saw in Softimage was the fact
that the speed of translation wasn't adjusting with the distance from the
object. Normally, when you dolly the camera in Softimage, the speed of the
camera varies with the distance of the object. So in a very large scene, the
camera moves very rapidly. With the SpacePilot, the camera moves always at the
same speed, making it very very slow in large scenes.

It made it useless.

My SpacePilot is sleeping in a drawer ever since. I'm keeping it because I'm
dreaming of the day I will be able to use it in VR. ;)

Hey list,

I recently bought a spacemouse pro, not exclusively for Softimage but would be
nice to use it there. The mouse itself works great within the demo from
3dConnexion (3d Connexion Viewer) and after some days of practice it feels very
natural. The implementation in some of the 3D animation DCCs unfortunatly isn't
that great. It works ok in XSI in the ortho views as well with user cam and
regular cameras. Not exceptionally good. E.g it has no automatic repositioning
of the camera interest. What makes it a bit difficult to move the cam precisely
when you're very close to objects. Another thing is, it mutes the direction
constraint on the cam to its interest. Somewhat understandable, since an active
constraint would interfere with the six degrees of freedom the mouse can do.
'Sticky keys' do not work because all buttons (even if freely configurable)
always works as toggle switches.

I'll give it some weeks testdriving it. Right now it feels more like a gadget
for CAD people.

Does anyone got some tips to make the best out of the spacemouse together with
XSI?

Regards,

sven

RE: exit from a CustomTool

I'm not familiar with the siKeyUp/Down event filters but the KeyUp/Down
callbacks for custom tools won't conflict with keymaps in other editors.

I wonder is there a way to filter events by active window name or something ?
I wrote a couple of siKeyDown, siKeyUp events but they work in all XSI windows.
So if i use this events a can't use this shortcuts in XSI to perform any other
actions according curent active window.

For example if i use "ctrl+z" shortcut in my siKeyDown event i can not undo any
changes in ScriptEditor nor in Explorer etc.
