A pain in the Arnold...

2018-05-31 Thread Ponthieux, Joseph G. (LARC-E1A)[LITES II]
Howdy yall,

I thought I would post here before I escalate this but... Arnold on Maya 2018
is producing an error in render...

I've got an ESRI City Engine scene imported into Maya 2018, It was working fine
under Maya 2017 and rendering fine in Mental Ray. But mental Ray is gone now.

1. It renders in the Maya Software render fine.

2. In Arnold it produces what looks like triangulation (Tessellation)
errors rendering some triangles darker than others.

3. It only produces the problem on materials with texture maps.

4. Disconnecting the textures from the diffuse color removes the problem.
But removes the texture also. But this seems to indicate its not a lighting,
normals, or shading error.

5. I've turned literally everything in Arnold settings off or neutral and
no change.

6. Its not shadows, nor anti-aliasing, nor duplicate polygons, nor a bad
mesh.

7. Forcing a triangulate on the mesh can make different triangles darker
but the problem does not go away.

8. All reflections, shadows, motion blur, etc have been turned off in
Maya and Arnold for Render Settings and Object. No change.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Re: VDB stuff

2018-05-31 Thread WilliamP
Thanks for getting back to me!

The part about connecting the workgroup is the part that works fine. I get all
the nodes in the list on the side of the ICE window, but there must be
something else I need to have installed first to make it all go.

At the beginning of his tutorial he calls the VDB_Voxelize_Geometry node, which
is in my listing, but when I get it out it has the Geometry in but no VDB_Grid
out. If I unpack VDB_Voxelize_Geometry it only has one node inside that doesn’t
connect to anything. I am presuming it is calling on other sub-nodes that it
expects to be on my computer.

If I try and load the test scene it comes back with a long list of VDB missing
errors, for example ‘Could not find node VDB_MeshToGrid’

VDB_MeshToGrid is not one that comes with Mr.Cores (Oleg Biliznuk’s) Compounds,
but it does call on it, expecting it to be there, I presume.

What am I missing? There is a lot of mentioning of StoA in connection to his
compounds, but is that something I need if I am using Redshift, not Arnold? Do
I need to be a licensed Arnold user?

Thanks in advance for your help on this!

William

A bit more info would help but,

first off download the workgroup which has the plugin already in it, point your
soft to it with the plugin manager, most likely restart soft then see if the
ice nodes are in the preset manager

Hi All
Please excuse my parachuting in like this but I am not sure where to get the

Is there an archive somewhere that I can look previous topics up on, in case
what I’m looking for has already been hashed over already?
I am trying to get Redshift to render VDB files in Softimage 2015, like can be
seen here

and while I’ve chased down as many links as I can online, I suspect I’m going
about installing the addons improperly, or missing a step, or something.
Any assistance, or direction to a detailed set of installation instructions
would be appreciated, thanks!

@Rob
We are aware of the issue with the .dll warning and I thought that Arnold
5.1.1.0 would fix it but apparently not. It's a harmful warning anyway
because we haven't implemented optix denoiser in SItoA (yet?).

Re: SitoA/Arnold 5.1 and Softimage....?

2018-05-31 Thread Jens Lindgren
Here's a build:
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.dropbox.com_s_pecjl5yr40ma3wq_SItoA-2D5.0.0-2Dalpha-2Dwindows-2D2015.zip-3Fdl-3D0&d=DwIFaQ&c=76Q6Tcqc-t2x0ciWn7KFdCiqt6IQ7a_IF9uzNzd_2pA&r=GmX_32eCLYPFLJ529RohsPjjNVwo9P0jVMsrMw7PFsA&m=GigPRkFXBujN6tWE5HJY9Sr9pwqhbQOldlMKeS1A_cE&s=CDk07bBV4_msJfo6r-SD-XjPid7TJcY4W5vbCgFReSA&e=
It's of the develop branch in the SItoA Github repository as it looks
today:
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__github.com_Autodesk_sitoa_tree_develop&d=DwIFaQ&c=76Q6Tcqc-t2x0ciWn7KFdCiqt6IQ7a_IF9uzNzd_2pA&r=GmX_32eCLYPFLJ529RohsPjjNVwo9P0jVMsrMw7PFsA&m=GigPRkFXBujN6tWE5HJY9Sr9pwqhbQOldlMKeS1A_cE&s=weyQ13HNzYHcxCk46xqkutDFLhbKe0JwFz6CClgXuYo&e=
It's named it SItoA 5.0.0-alpha. It doesn't have all the new features.
Please read the closed PRs of what's new:
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__github.com_Autodesk_sitoa_pulls-3Fq-3Dis-253Apr-2Bis-253Aclosed&d=DwIFaQ&c=76Q6Tcqc-t2x0ciWn7KFdCiqt6IQ7a_IF9uzNzd_2pA&r=GmX_32eCLYPFLJ529RohsPjjNVwo9P0jVMsrMw7PFsA&m=GigPRkFXBujN6tWE5HJY9Sr9pwqhbQOldlMKeS1A_cE&s=UfkLEkOJG24OUz_WHQaGFg7kILa0Ld7Y8hbKCsQFZR4&e=
It's compiled against Softimage 2015 SP2 and Arnold 5.1.1.0 which must have
been released today or something because they haven't announced it yet.
To be able to compile you need Visual Studio 2012. There's a free version
called *Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Desktop*. Make sure it's the
Desktop version. It' doesn't hurt to install the *Visual Studio 2015 Update
5* update after that as well. Downloads can be found here:
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__my.visualstudio.com_Downloads-3Fq-3Dvisual-2520studio-25202012-26wt.mc-5Fid-3Do-7Emsft-7Evscom-7Eolder-2Ddownloads&d=DwIFaQ&c=76Q6Tcqc-t2x0ciWn7KFdCiqt6IQ7a_IF9uzNzd_2pA&r=GmX_32eCLYPFLJ529RohsPjjNVwo9P0jVMsrMw7PFsA&m=GigPRkFXBujN6tWE5HJY9Sr9pwqhbQOldlMKeS1A_cE&s=bsn4ewi-WlUVW8TD-66Hv35i_BUAqx0uA4yjEsMDSO0&e=
When you have installed that the easiest way to build is to launch the VS
Developer console and run abuild from there. Make sure it's the 64-bit one.
It's called *VS2012 x64 Cross Tools Command Prompt* on the start menu.
