Re: Softimage mailing list: 2019 by the numbers

I think at this point I will be using XSI for ICE power and maybe some
things I might be able to do quicker there than in Maya. But I am starting
to get a bit rusty with XSI so I feel I need to go in there and use it on a
project or 2 to fire up the old muscle memory.

Last Install of XSI ( I think) Should I use 2014 sp2 or 2015

2019-12-31 Thread F Sanchez
I Just purchased a super PC from Boxx. An upgrade that has been 10 years
to long. This may be my last install of XSI I have a permanent license.
I remember 2014 sp 2 as being pretty stable. Not sure if 2015 was stable. I
don't think I have sp2. If you are still working on XSI which version are
you using the most?
Thanks
John

Wow, that is one christmas gift. Thanks, Eric.

Im a bit surprised that he also quit the Cinema, Maya, Modo part of the
plugin development. I would have thought there are some costumers.

Over the weekend my wife was asking me for the equivalent of Walk Along
Mesh UV mapping. I couldn't give her much of an answer, save for messing
about with Unfold. Low and behold, today we moved over to Maya 2016 and
Contour Stretch mapping was highlighted as a new feature.

I was trying to find one of those Autodesk features demoing it and all
I could find was XSI vids and a thread on CGTalk from 2004 saying it was
 needed (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=167383). Ah well,
only 12 years to catch up, don't lose hope, riggers in the other thread.

Its 2016 already. Is there no other app that will ever take the place of
Maya? (Besides a future resurrection of Softimage which is not going to
happen. ) Sure I can use XSI when working on my own but if you need to work
on site it will now have to be Maya from now on. :(

I'm glad you are liking your new modeling tools, Eugene. However I
believe that it is important to make the distinction that it is not about
the confusion in Maya rigging--at least not for me; I do not find Maya
confusing at all. What the huge issue with Maya is that its limited rigging
tool-set combined with archaic workflow make the task of rigging drudgery.*
Drudgery* is the key word more than confusion. I have made many
character rigs in Maya over the past fifteen-plus years and Maya still
 sucks at it.
