Re: Missing ShapeAction Sources When Importing Model

2014-01-31 Thread Mitchell Lotierzo
The cluster key properties were never renamed.

Another interesting thing happens when I go to export the model. The script
editor warns me:

"
# WARNING : 3000 - Model Unknown Model does not contain all inputs for
object Char_Man.Body_M_GeoRndr.polymsh.ICETree to perform. Imported model
may not behave as expected.
"

Unknown model? The model I'm exporting definitely has a name. The only
thing that ICETree is doing is a basic copy op which copies the point
positions from a duplicate mesh to the render mesh.

Hey Eric,

I checked the action source items list. I was under the impression that the
items list contains all entries with the model name stripped. Is that not
the case? As far as renaming the cluster key properties, I'm not sure. I'll
have to ask the artist that passed this scene onto me.

tried again and all is well.

2014-01-15 Thread Mitchell Lotierzo
Cool. Thanks for the add. info. Tony!
I tried installing 'PySide-1.1.1qt474.win-amd64-py2.7.exe' from the
downloads page you provided (which I believe was the version that you said
worked for you) and Softimage still crashes. It seems to be crashing after
it creates the Qt parent window (according to the log in script editor).
I'll try other versions and see if that doesn't remedy the situation. If
all else fails, I suppose I'll make a build from scratch and try that.

Thanks!

Thanks for that Tony! :)

So, the version that worked for you (PySide with Qt 4.7.4), did you replace
the PySide and Qt libraries in the "tk-softimage" resources folder or did
you strip them from the engine and just install your build of PySide per
user?

(Sorry for any newbie questions. I'm still new to the whole Qt world.)

Thanks again! I totally appreciate it.

Hey guys,

Thanks for replies. Yeah, we're on Windows. I'll look into compiling our
own version of PySide and looking at our QT version.

Thanks!

OT | Softimage Shotgun Interaction Crash

2014-01-14 Thread Mitchell Lotierzo
Hey list,

Any fellow Shotgun users out there? One of my coworkers is encountering an
issue where launching some of the Shotgun apps' UIs cause Softimage to
crash; specifically the 'Loader' and 'Change Work Area' dialogs. The less
complex UIs seem to launch fine. I know Shotgun has some form of PyQT built
into it and I have a hunch that some aspect of it is conflicting with
Softimage.

We've tried running a 'runonce.bat' and nuking his user folder; neither
seemed to make a difference. We're running the version of Python included
with Softimage 2012.SAP.

Just looking to see if any of you Shotgun users out there have stumbled
across a similar problem.

Thanks y'all,
Mitch

Scripting | Python | Aborting A Built-In Command

2013-03-14 Thread Mitchell Lotierzo
Hi everyone!

I have an issue where Softimage is adding materials to referenced material
libraries when the ref. material library is set as the current library. I'm
trying to remedy this with a custom plug-in and a OnBeginCommand custom
event to check if any shader commands where triggered. I'm having trouble
finding a way to abort (if you can at all) the built-in commands fired when
you add a new material. I know there is a ".Enabled" property, but that
only affects the UI, not the command execution. It also seems that the
command's argument handlers are all set to "None". I may be
misunderstanding how to go about this. Does anyone out there have
experience with this sort of thing?

Thanks!
Mitch

ICE | Default FCurve Node Profile Range

Hi all!

Does anyone know of a way or if it's even possible to change the default UI
range of an FCurve node to something other than just 0 & 1? I know I can
just use Rescale nodes before and after my FCurve, but I plan on using this
profile to re-time animation and would like the user to be able to see the
range of key frames they are working with.

Thanks,

ICE | Clone Point & Point ID Issues

2013-02-27 Thread Mitchell Lotierzo
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to clone some points on a point cloud by first reading in a
cache file with a "Cache On File" node and then using the "Clone Point"
node. I'm then trying to randomize their color values (which I know relies
on an ID attribute). All works well for the first three or four frames or
so, but then the color and the particle's ID shifts. This behavior seems to
cycle. I've noticed that after I clone the points is when this behavior
seems to happen. If I just plug in the "Cache On File" node and visualize
my ID attribute it's fine; no shifting. I should point out that I'm trying
to do all of this in the modeling stack and using 2012.SAP.

Is there something trivial I'm missing here?

Thanks for any insight!
Mitch

ICE | Simulation Playback With Increased Subframe Sampling

2012-08-10 Thread Mitchell Lotierzo
Hey all,

I've been running into what seems to be an unexpected behavior while using
ICE subframe sampling and was just wondering if anyone else has ever seen
this before.

I have a basic ICE RBD simulation in my scene and have the subframe
sampling set to three. The simulation plays back fine initially, but fails
to simulate at all when I save and reload the scene. I have to turn the
subframe sampling back down to one, play through the simulation, and then
set the subframe sampling back to it's original value to get it to simulate
correctly again. It's a bit annoying, but workable.

Thanks,
Mitch

2012-07-31 Thread Mitchell Lotierzo
I got to agree with Alan and Jonah. I'm trying to use that node within a
state machine and it just crashes Softimage on playback. It was
working fine when I was building it (was even evaluating right from state
to state), but once I saved the scene and reopened, it just crashes on
playback. I've had to resort to the regular "Simulate Rigid Bodies" as
well, at least for the time being.

@Todd: I logged the size of all my arrays and they are all identical.
The only one that wasn't was Orientation, but I'm pretty sure that should
be returning a size of zero since I have "Loft Shape Along Strand" checked

thanks for the tip. :)

@Steven: I wasn't aware there was a sitoa list. I'm pretty new to the world

ICE | Arnold Render Errors With Strands

2012-06-29 Thread Mitchell Lotierzo
Has anyone out there ever had problems getting strands to render in Arnold?
I get this error message when I draw a render region:

"""
# WARNING : [arnold] ignoring parameter points on Strands_PntCld.strands
(found: nans or infs)
# WARNING : [arnold] [curves] Invalid number of points (expected 40800,
found 0)
"""

I can see my strands perfectly fine in the viewport though. I've noticed
that when I disable my "Slide on Surface" node in the ICETree, I can get
the strands to render perfectly fine. I tried tweaking every setting in the
node as well, but nothing seems to work besides disabling it. There must be
something on the inner workings of the node that I can't wrap my head
around.

Any thoughts?

Much appreciated,
Mitch

Re: Beginners Guide to Python

2012-05-01 Thread Mitchell Lotierzo
cmiVFX has some good videos on Python. I remember watching one that was
just a basic introduction to Python and wasn't focused on any particular
software, but I don't seem to see it in their store anymore. It may be
there though.

Other than that, I referred to this book a lot when I was first starting
out in Python:

http://www.amazon.com/Learning-Python-Powerful-Object-Oriented-Programming/dp/0596158068/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1335881009&sr=1-7

After that, like Peter said, I would dive into the Object Model and look at
some of the various examples in the SDK.

Just my thoughts. :)
