Before updating I just checked 6.4 upgrade notes and current.html
(I was updating pre-6.4 to -current). I did find the commit when I looked
for it but it's easy to miss ("...and remove the old 6.3/6.4 announce
compat code") so definitely needs to make it into 6.5 upgrade notes.

How could the driver know what is being done by the captured audio?

This is nothing specific to microphones, it is all audio input devices.

It appears that $REQUEST_URI doesn't actually work quite right yet:

* Connected to www.openbsd.org (129.128.5.194) port 80 (#1)
> GET /cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=test= HTTP/1.1

< Content-Length: 443
< Location: http://man.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=test%26sektion=
<
* Closing connection #1

It looks like it's because the query gets URL encoded:

http://bxr.su/o/usr.sbin/httpd/server_http.c#server_expand_http

986if (strstr(val, "$REQUEST_URI") != NULL) {
987if ((path = url_encode(desc->http_path)) == NULL)
988return (NULL);
989if (desc->http_query == NULL) {
990str = path;
991} else {
992if ((query = url_encode(desc->http_query)) == NULL) {
993free(path);
994return (NULL);
995}
996ret = asprintf(, "%s?%s", path, query);

I think it is incorrect to ever encode it (happens in a few other
places, too), because it doesn't appear that it ever gets decoded from
the URL format in the first place.

Cheers,
Constantine.SU.

The behaviour was changed at some point. For example on an old
machine with 5.6

/usr/share/man/man4/re.4 and /usr/share/man/man3p/re.3p both exist

man re shows re(4) not re(3p).

So I am proposing the default be changed back. When that link
was added the search order was correct.

And why would you want that ? because you care less about the
perl manpages ?

Changing the default will impact other people, even if that patch
would work.

How does sysmerge(8) help in updating /dev? I guess this should be split into

Only if ease of reference and orderly looks count. They aren't
used internally and they are a huge pain to maintain since it's
so easy to get them wrong. I'd say we should either automatize
the numbering in some way or lose it asap.

I think I remember a few devs saying that rcctl(8) is what people should
use these days. If that's true, maybe the FAQ can just spend a sentence
or two describing what rc.conf.local is and point to the man page
instead of describing it in detail.

Also, as pointed out by a reader off-list, using only 'nameserver

IMHO the faq isn't a place to show off cool software you found, especially
as it might be taken as an implicit endorsement, rather to show minimal

This breaks my system where I use sendmail from ports in /etc/mailer.conf.

cd mail && exec make distribution
install -c -o root -g wheel -m 644 aliases
/tmp/_etcdir.9nVgeOiVtS/etc/mail/aliases
/usr/sbin/makemap -t aliases -o /tmp/_etcdir.9nVgeOiVtS/etc/mail/aliases.db

*** Error 73 in mail (Makefile:17 'distribution')
*** Error 1 in /usr/src/etc (Makefile:203 'distribution-etc-root-var')
*** Error 1 in /usr/src (Makefile:83 'build')

man -a newaliases says

 Notice: do not use makemap to create the aliases data base, because
 newaliases puts a special token into the data base that is required by
 sendmail.

Thanks for spotting it, I missed this entry in etc/mail/Makefile.
The idea was to remove yet another executable and use smtpctl(8)
for makemap/newaliases. This diff should fix it. Instead of hardcoding
a specific implementation of makemap path, use the standard mailwrapper
makemap path which will call the configured executable in mailer.conf.

I'm confused:

It says "$ rm -f /usr/libexec/smtpd/makemap", but etc/mail/Makefile
still contains

MAKEMAP= /usr/libexec/smtpd/makemap
[...]
${MAKEMAP} -t aliases -o ${DESTDIR}/etc/mail/aliases.db \
${DESTDIR}/etc/mail/aliases

thus breaking 'make build'.

If I read the source of smtpctl.c correctly, it seems that
smtpctl/Makefile is missing a LINKS=... line and the above needs to be
adjusted, no?

Hmm, looking through the commit log I don't see anything either.
I will remove this for now. Any comments, Alexey?

What changes is this referring to exactly?
I don't recall any particular urtwn commits which addressed
stability issues specific to devices already supported in 5.7.

What the 5.8 release notes could definitely say is something like:

 * Support for RTL8188EU devices was added to the urtwn(4) driver.

Hi Ken.

Thanks for asking.
Ideally, a Lenovo X serie. But I don't really care about the brand as long as
there's a trackpoint and that the laptop is not too big/heavy.

 this has been communicated here:

The conculsion I took from that thread was that it was not going to
actually be removed? I took it to mean simply adding a strong
indication to users whenever used to use softraid which is better in
most cases.

Would the word deprecated in 5.7 be more accurate on upgrade56.html or
is it actually being removed?

 wow! Is there a way to turn this off @ runtime or compile time? if not
 changed, any terrible side-effects? thanks for your efforts!

You can tweak the the PreferredMethod in [DirWatch] section in
default application configuration file
($KDEHOME/share/apps/config/APPNAMErc). Yes, this could and should be
tweaked per application. Possible values:

Fam
Stat
QFSWatch (previous value, effectively same as Stat)
INotify (current default)

Note that then you'll get constant CPU and disk eating. Which is
especially noticeable for laptop users.
