 No, RHN could not provision systems.
 - allows you to do system monitoring (maybe this can be done with RHN)
 No, RHN could not monitor systems.
 I would add - Satellite can:
 - have osad - all actions are instantly pushed to clients
 - you can manage users and organizations on your own
 - maintance window - you are able to download rpm and erratas to client
 in advance prior the scheduled action, so install/upgrade is much faster
 - you see timedate when rpm have been installed
 - you can manage selinux context of config files
 Additionally in Spacewalk you can:
 - audit selinux
 And I probably forgot some others features.

 A much much larger set of API's are available in Spacewalk Satellite vs RHN.

On rhn you can not create custom channels like clone channels from the orginial
redhat channels.

I have done this way if you are always on spacewalk register with
centos 5.3:

cd /etc/pki/rpm-gpg; wget http://spacewalk.redhat.com/yum/RPM-GPG-KEY-spacewalk

create yum repo file /etc/yum.repos.d/spacewalk-client-tools.repo with
content for spacewalk 0.6 :

[spacewalk-client-tools]
name=Spacewalk Client Tools
baseurl=http://spacewalk.redhat.com/yum/0.6/RHEL/5/x86_64/os/
enabled=0
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-spacewalk

after that:

yum update rhn* --enablerepo=spacewalk-client-tools -y

after that yum update from spacewalk should work fine.

Hello,

Maybe check the following:
- open /etc/rhn/default/rhn_taskomatic_daemon.conf and see if
'redstone-xmlrpc.jar' is listed somewhere.

- rpm -V redstone-xmlrpc spacewalk-java spacewalk-java-lib
- ls -l /usr/share/java/redstone-xmlrpc.jar /var/lib/tomcat5/webapps/
rhn/WEB-INF/lib/redstone-xmlrpc*

- zipinfo /usr/share/java/redstone-xmlrpc.jar | less
 (and then look for the redstone/xmlrpc/XmlRpcClient.class file in
that list)

Hope to help,

Josh

Hi Josh,
Thank you for this ideas.
The first check in rhn_taskomatic_daemon.conf, there was no
wrapper.java.classpath for redstone-xmlrpc.jar.

I have add this to rhn_taskomatic_daemon.conf:
wrapper.java.classpath.66=/usr/share/java/redstone-xmlrpc.jar

and after spacewalk restart taskomatic goes to rebuild /var/cache/rhn/
repodata

Great Stuff

Re: [Spacewalk-list] Best why to Sync Centos repo??

Thanks for the reply.

I'm using the following entry in my yum repo file

[Centos4-x86_64-base]
name=CentOS-$releasever - Base
#baseurl=http://centos.mirror.ac.za/4/os/x86_64/
baseurl=http://mirror.ukhost4u.com/centos/4/os/x86_64/
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-4

I changed mirrors above to test if it was a problem with the mirror

When I run the following command, it syncs 486 packages only
# reposync --repoid=Centos4-x86_64-base

[Centos4-x86_64-base: 485   of 486   ] Skipping existing CentOS/
RPMS/zlib-1.2.1.2-1.2.i386.rpm
[Centos4-x86_64-base: 486   of 486   ] Skipping existing CentOS/
RPMS/zlib-devel-1.2.1.2-1.2.i386.rpm

Surely there has to be more than 486 packages on the mirror? The
same happens with other repo's although they have different counts

So, I pull down http://mirror.ukhost4u.com/centos/4/os/x86_64/,
strip the crud

off and...:

grep -v x86_64 index.html |wc -l
486

I'm guessing you're doing the reposync on a 32bit machine?

reposync --repoid=Centos4-x86_64-base --arch=x86_64

Perhaps?

I think too, because i reposync 32bit on 32bit guest and 64 bit on 64
bit guest for centos repos with only --repoid option.

And with this i get the 32bit repo two spacewalk daily.
I think something with cobbler 2 spacewalk sync would be more practicle?

Re: [Spacewalk-list] Package List never gets refreshed

2009-04-16 Thread Thomas von Steiger

you can select +100 servers and then in system set manager - channel :
Unsubscribe one channel for +100 server an subscribe back the same
channel again to this +100 server.

Or subscripe a channel and unsubscribe this channel.
For me this helps for now to update the package state.

I have exactly the same problem after upgrading from 0.4 to 0.5.

If I disable + enable one child channel the problem is solved;

I have tried unsuscribing + suscribing all systems using SSM but
this doesn't work. Is there anyway to solve this globally? Doing
this process manually in +100 servers is a bit heavy, thanks!!!

[Spacewalk-list] give to a user spacewalk administrator permission

2009-01-28 Thread Thomas von Steiger

Hi,

If i login as satellite administrator i can't give to a other user
spacewalk administrator role.

This checkbox for spacewalk administrator is visible because inactive.
Are there some special rights more than spacewalk administrator
required to give a other user spacewalk administrator?

Re: [Spacewalk-list] HA Spacewalk

2009-01-14 Thread Thomas von Steiger

You can use RHCS inside two dom0's and one cluster service is a SW domU.
For this you need conga to setup a virtual server as a cluster service.
Spacewalk domU is a normal standalone guest with standart start/stop
scripts.

For this you need shared storage for domU.
There are the same conditions that you need for live migration between
to dom0's.

Here is a great article about this setup:

Well, the manuals/links posted here refer to active-backup/standby and
not to active-active/passive configurations using a HA solution such
RHCS.

I guess, it is possible to use RHCS for an AA/AP configuration of SW,
after all it is just another service. However, you will need to script
out your own startup scripts(stop/start/status for all the services SW
has) to use with RHCS on SW. Doable though. Anybody done it yet for
SAT or SW?

Alternatively, you can use XEN dom0 to live migrate an SW domU onto
another dom0. This should work for the embedded DB-SW offering, I am
not sure for the stand alone DB-SW...

ERROR: unhandled exception occurred: (Timeout Exception).

But I get an unhandled exception error. How do I go about
identifying the cause?

Thanks,

Hi,
I try to sync between 2 spacewalk 0.3 satellites and get this problem.
Is this a problem about spacewalk2?

Just for sure... do you know that you changed this option in memory
only?
If you want make this change permanent (i.e. survive database
restart) issue

SQL alter system set _optimizer_cost_based_transformation=off
scope=spfile;

Now i know!
Thanks for this hint.

[Spacewalk-list] Display system updates or packages failed

2008-07-24 Thread Thomas von Steiger
I get this errors if i try to display all available updates for a
system.

Channels are centos5 and spacewalk is running on centos5 32bit.
yum update from the client site is running success for 15 available
updates.

Are this maybe a timeout problem?
Can anybody view the available updates for a server?

My virtual spacewalk server has 1Gb memory an 2 cpu's 3Ghz.
This are my oracle rpm's:

oracle-instantclient-devel-10.2.0.4-1
oracle-xe-client-10.2.0.1-1.0
oracle-instantclient-basic-10.2.0.4-1

oracle-xe-univ-10.2.0.1-1.0
