Re: [Spacewalk-list] channels for SuSE - in spacewalk

2016-08-09 Thread Flores, Javier (D4\INF\IT ID)
Hi Jineesh,

The URL without rpm/x86_64 should work but maybe there is something wrong with
the credentials.

Please try to sync by using the organization credentials you find in the SUSE
Customer Center. Login to scc.suse.com then click on Organization ->
Organization Credentials.

Javier

The URL will be found in the "Configured Software Repositories" in YAST. Open
up YAST find "Software Repositories" under the "Software" section. (I
personally uses yast2, and pull the GUI back to my desktop using X windows.)

In YAST you'll see the URL string(s) for the various repositories. Click the
"Edit" button for the specific URL that you want. From the edit screen you need:

  *   Server Name
  *   Directory on Server

To construct the Repository URL within SW you need the credentials from the
registered server, which can be found in /etc/zypp/credentials.d/NCCcredentials.

Example of the URL:

https://:@<Server<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__-253cusername-253e-3A-253cpassword-253e-40-253cServer=CwMFAw=eIGjsITfXP_y-DLLX0uEHXJvU8nOHrUK8IrwNKOtkVU=xnk6faVmjZxyTjiFEP2o6AsffZuTCmI8oJpy4eDfk30=KOtBLKtwI8x3l_EdyvsoMXbZNLLvZ3H7un5XKHLEJXo=qWiXdep-F3aMVwWdP9ztuX6Ue5J1iY0dLX0nW8Z83P8=>
 Name>/

Copy/paste all information that you collected into the Repository URL of the
SLES Channel, and then run the sync.

Hopefully this answered your question.

Jineesh,

This is correct. You have to have properly licensed servers to be able to
access the repositories.

You get SLES 11 updates from Novell. SLES12 from SuSE.

up YAST find "Software Repositories" under the "Software" section. (I
personally uses yast2, and pull the GUI back to my desktop using X windows.)

In YAST you'll see the URL string(s) for the various repositories. Click the
"Edit" button for the specific URL that you want. From the edit screen you need:

  *   Server Name
  *   Directory on Server

To construct the Repository URL within SW you need the credentials from the
registered server, which can be found in /etc/zypp/credentials.d/NCCcredentials.

Example of the URL:

https://:@<Server<https://%3cusername%3e:%3cpassword%3e@%3cServer>
 Name>/

Copy/paste all information that you collected into the Repository URL of the
SLES Channel, and then run the sync.

Hopefully this answered your question.

Jineesh,

This is correct. You have to have properly licensed servers to be able to
access the repositories.

The reason why I am using SW is because I have both RHEL and SLES servers in my
environment. I evaluated purchasing Red Hat Satellite server and SuSE Package
Management Server. However, I cannot afford purchasing both products and
licenses all of my systems, so I opted for Spacewalk. Spacewalk is the
upstream development for both platforms and I can have a single pain of glass
for both environments.

I could make either RH Satellite or SuSE Management Server work for both, but I
would have to setup a PULP server to proxy the packages from one environment to
the other. I tested that scenario, and it was a major pain. Going the SW
direction seems to be the best option. I registered my SW server with Red Hat,
and then a couple of servers with SuSE, who's sole purpose is to access the
repositories. I now am able to manage both RHEL and SLES environments from a
single SW server. Very easy and works great. But again, you need to license
and register servers with SuSE to access the repositories.

Hi Daryl,

Thanks for the details.

Could you please let us know what is the repository URL for SUSE11 SP3 and
where you put the credentials in URL link.

Thanks & Regards,

Jineesh,

In order to get SLES repositories setup in Spacewalk, you need to first
register one server per service pack with SuSE. For example, I have servers
that are on both SLES 11 SP3 and SLES 11 SP4. I built two servers specifically
just to register to SuSE. One was registered to the SLES 11 SP3 SuSE
repository and the other was registered to the SLES 11 SP4

After I built those server and registered them with SuSE, I opened yast and
copied the Repository URL. I used that string, along with the registered
credentials in the "Repository URL" of the Repository Details page in
Spacewalk. The credentials can be found in
/etc/zypp/credentials.d/NCCcredentials of the server that you would register
with SuSE.

Dang, This is the second time today that this has happened to me. I'm right
in the middle of writing the reply, I hit a key combination that "sends" the
message before I'm ready.

Anyway. I was explaining how I registered servers to SuSE in order to access
the repositories.

I hope that my reply wasn't to confusing to you. I was really in the middle of
proof reading and making edits when it was accidentally sent. I see some
information that should have been cleaned up, or explained better. So, if you
have additional questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

Re: [Spacewalk-list] channels for SuSE - in spacewalk

2016-06-02 Thread Flores, Javier (D4\INF\IT ID)
Hi,

It's the same procedure as for CentOS. First create the repositories, then
create a channel and add the repositories to that channel.

SLES11 Repos are hosted by Novell. My "Repository URL" looks something like
https://username:passw...@nu.novell.com/repo/$RCE/SLES11-SP...

Regards,
Javier
