Killer-application is people-TV
January 2007

KillerTV wishes everybody that co-operated and watched the program a
prosperous new year. KillerTV started in December with the
introduction of High Definition Television and will go on in January
2007. From December onwards we broadcast in the aspect ratio of 16:9,
instead of 4:3. We also improved the encoding quality (the way video
is translated to computer-language). In the course of January
KillerTV will be made available on demand in High Definition, Live
the stream will still be at http://connect.waag.org.
The new website is being developed and we will start experimenting as
soon as the first version isready to use.

Wednesday 10 January 2007
A workshop/presentation about film art and dreamworlds with Dutch
director Erik van Zuylen. Van Zuylen is a connoisseur of European
film art and will introduce German artist Hans Richter. Richter was a
‘homo universalis’ who worked as painter, designer, poet, director,
writer and publisher. For Dutch company Philips he made a number of
commercials and he even lived in the Netherlands for a while.
For KillerTV van Zuylen shows work of this pioneer of the abstract
film and tells about the influence of Richter on his work. Students
and young artists also show their work and and discuss about abstract
film art. The central theme of the evening is dreamworlds. Arjen
Keesmaat, Machted Ardse and Kuba Szutkowski will join the discussion
and show their work.

exchanges. The underlying software HIVEWARES is an open source
operating system designed to function on commercial networks like
WiFi. Every Hive enabled device is a node in the network. Internet-

development and tells about its history, the possibilities and the
future of Hive. Grafov will be joined by Alexei Blinov, and

22 MARCH with IGLOO

Igloo is an award winning British art collective interested in the
visual and kinaesthetic applications of the computer, who develop their
own software tools and methods of working and presenting. Igloo's
methodologies for combining creative art forms bring theatrical
experiences to new audiences, while they aim to create new methods of
interaction, blurring the boundaries between spectator and participator.

They say:It is important for us to innovate rather than adapt. To
experiment with different formats new methods of interaction. We take
many risks with each new artwork (...). We believe in growing pieces
rather than designing them, exploring ideas of being in other peoples
stories, allowing audiences to join the dots, providing libraries of
motion for play provoking imagination so that certain things can be
left unsaid.

Networking Bordergames
Thursday, 1.2. 2007, 12 hrs, Akademie Hanseatenweg, Salon
'Bordergames' is an international open-source computer game project. It offers
young migrants a creative tool for self-representation and for a critical
analysis of their environment. It also serves as an instrument for reflecting
and communicating about social conflicts. The subject and content of the
different local versions of ’Bordergames’ are the specific living conditions of
young migrants in political, social and cultural border areas. Starting from
their immediate environment, the teenagers can choose characters, dialogues and
paths by themselves, learning the specific IT skills to realize the computer
game.
'Bordergames Kreuzberg' evolves from a cooperation with the Spanish art and
activist collective La Fiambrera Obrera. At the transmediale.07, Spanish and
Berlin-based members of the group will show the three already existing versions
of ’Bordergames’ (Lavapies, Figueres and Rifgames) and will present the Berlin
workshop, scheduled to start in spring 2007 in the area around Wrangelstrasse
in Kreuzberg.
Participants: Bordergames Kreuzberg, La Fiambrera Obrera

Whatever happened to Tactical Media?
Thursday, 1.2. 2007, 16 hrs, Akademie Hanseatenweg, Salon
Creating a collaborative culture has been the main goal of video activism,
independent practices that are based upon cooperation and networking. Can
online tools and services such as YouTube or Flickr provide new cultural
identities and open up new areas of dialogue and critique? What political role
does the Net play today as a tool for collaborative production? Is
self-sufficiency and the DIY ethos still important in the age of Web 2.0? And
what is the actual relevance of tactical media today?
Participants: Baerbel Schoenafinger, Katsiaryna Herasenkava, Pauluk
Kanavalchyk,
Anastasia Nekozakova, Petko Dourmana, Fran Ilich, Micz Flor
Presented by: Joanne Richardson

Content Generating Users (in German)
Saturday, 3.2. 2007, 12 hrs, Akademie Hanseatenweg, Salon
The Blogosphere, where many people found their place as sender, receiver and
relay, has finally reached the art world. In November 2006 the Deutschlandradio
began to broadcast ‘Blogspiel’, a programme whose radio and sound art contents
are mostly provided by the continuous posts on its website. Sendung.net is an
open online archive for audiovisual art, while Kunst-Blog.com is a forum for
art criticism.
