Interview with Scot Gresham-Lancaster By Helen Thorington Networked_Music_Review Scot Gresham-Lancaster is a composer, performer, instrument builder and educator. He is dedicated to research and performance using the expanding capabilities of computer networks for musical and cross discipline expression. He studied with Philip Ianni, Roy Harris, Darius Milhaud, John Chowning, Robert Ashley, Terry Riley, Blue Gene Tyranny and Jack Jarret, among others. Gresham-Lancaster has been a composer in residence at Mills College and he has been developing new families of controllers at STEIM, Amsterdam. He has toured and recorded as a member of the HUB and has performed the music of Alvin Curran, Pauline Oliveros, John Zorn, and John Cage, under their direction. Gresham-Lancaster has also worked as a technical assistant to Lou Harrison, Iannis Xenakis, David Tudor among many others. Helen Thorington: Welcome Scot. You were a member of the computer network band, the HUB, and an early pioneer of computer networked music. Tell us about the HUB and the kind of work you, John Bischoff, Tim Perkis, Chris Brown, Mark Trayle and Phil Stone did at that time. Juli - 23. September 2007 Mit KORPYS / LÖFFLER und CORINNA SCHNITT werden während der Sommermonate zwei individuelle Positionen der aktuellen künstlerischen Arbeit im Medium Video in Oldenburg vorgestellt. Auf den beiden Etagen des Ausstellungsgebäudes zeigen die Künstler jeweils ein für die Präsentation im Edith-Ruß-Haus für Medienkunst verwirklichtes Projekt, begleitet von ausgewählten Werken aus den letzten Jahren. In ihren Videos, Fotografien und Installationen beobachten ANDREE KORPYS und MARKUS LÖFFLER gesellschaftliche Zusammenhänge und die ihnen zugrunde liegenden Strukturen, vor allem die Topographie und Psychologie von Macht und Gewalt sowie deren Repräsentationsstrategien. Oft heftet sich ihr Blick dabei auf die Randerscheinungen, das Umfeld oder auch nur Schauplätze von Ereignissen von politischer und gesellschaftlicher Tragweite, die meist eine tiefgründigere Reflexion zulassen als letztere selbst. *Investigative Kunst*, *Borderline-Journalismus* und *Dokumentationspoesie* lauten demnach Versuche, die eigenwillige Herangehensweise von KORPYS / LÖFFLER an soziale und politische Themenkomplexe auf einen Begriff zu bringen, einen Blick auf Aktuelles und Historisches aus einer entschieden künstlerischen Perspektive, der nicht moralisch werten, belehren oder eindeutig kommentieren will. Die neue Arbeit *Eure Kinder werden so wie wir* (Arbeitstitel), die KORPYS / LÖFFLER für die Ausstellung im Edith-Ruß-Haus für Medienkunst realisieren, widmet sich dem Thema des Protests gegen nationale und internationale politische Entscheidungen und Absprachen in den Bereichen Ökologie und Ökonomie, wofür die Künstler Material in Gorleben und jüngst auch beim G-8 Gipfel in Heiligendamm gesammelt haben. Weitere Arbeiten, die in der Ausstellung zu sehen sind, sind *Für ein Leben nach dem Tod* (2006), *Kanu* (2003), *When Lands the Saucer* (2002) und *Ruhleben* (1999). CORINNA SCHNITT analysiert in ihren Fotografien und Film- und Videoarbeiten mit einem präzisen Blick soziale oder auch zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen und die Orte und Räume, in denen sie sich abspielen und nicht zuletzt auch spiegeln. Scharfsichtig, oft mit einer Komik, die der Spitzen nicht entbehrt, durchdringt sie die Fassade des Alltäglichen und scheinbar Banalen und lässt vertraute Situationen und Szenerien einen seltsamen und zuweilen auch unheimlichen Charakter annehmen. Das Normale offenbart seine Absurdität, das Gewohnte erscheint befremdlich, ein Hintergrund, vor dem sich menschliches Verhalten und das Streben Einzelner als vielfältig codiert und überformt zeigt, durch gesellschaftliche Wertvorstellungen, ethische Normen oder schlicht Klischees. Formal untersucht Corinna Schnitt dabei die Bildsprache einer der großen *Fabriken* für langlebige Klischees, des Kinos in der Manier groß angelegter Hollywood-Produktionen: Ihre Arbeiten sind sorgfältig inszeniert, bedienen sich einer präzise geplanten Kameraführung und nutzen die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten der Tongestaltung. In ihrer neuen Arbeit setzt sich CORINNA SCHNITT mit dem Thema des kindlichen Spiels auseinander, anhand des Spielplatzes als einem durch und durch ambivalenten Ort, der einen Freiraum verspricht, aber auch disziplinatorisch funktioniert.
