are featured on the Electronic Village Galleries Website

post your thoughts and interpretation of the works on the Electronic
Village Galleries Website http://evg.dematerial.org

Come and Have Your Say
VOX POPULI : Vidocumentation by Delpha Hudson will be through ‘vox pop’
interviews, negotiated with the public at the event, through dialogue.
Audiences will be asked which digital work they most like or dislike,
and why. Drawing on the idea of 'found’ sound or footage, the vox pop
interviews will not be controlled or edited by post-production
processes, just placed on the web.

Have a look at what's on and come along if you can!

Electronic Village Galleries Penryn is part of a pilot project devised
by Kate Southworth at University College Falmouth which is supported by
Arts Council England. Electronic Village Galleries aims to develop a
distributed platform that supports artists to host new media art events
in their local village or town hall, and which links together local art
communities in Cornwall and the South West of England with network and
new media art and its global communities. It’s an experiment, so please
join in and help to shape it!

Forthcoming Events:
Electronic Village Galleries: Zennor Hall – Friday May 6th
Electronic Village Galleries: Liskeard Town Hall – Friday May 20th

[spectre] (fwd) Sign the Petition: Release Ai Weiwei

2011-04-14 Diskussionsfäden Andreas Broeckmann
On April 3, internationally acclaimed Chinese artist Ai Weiwei was
detained at the Beijing airport while en route to Hong Kong, and his
papers and computers were seized from his studio compound.

'The members of the international arts community express their
concern for Ai's freedom and disappointment in China's reluctance to
live up to its promise to nurture creativity and independent thought,
the keys to soft power and cultural influence.

The initiative has been taken working closely with Jerome Cohen, the
leading Chinese human rights lawyer who is working on Weiwei's case,
and who believes that this action could be effective.
To support the petition you can link it on your website, on Facebook
and Twitter sites, in order to quickly reach millions of people.'

[spectre] Conversation with Dutch sound collector Ed Veenstra, about object records, anti-records, broken music...

2011-04-14 Diskussionsfäden Radio Web MACBA
Conversation with sound collector Ed Veenstra

PDF file: http://bit.ly/hWjnxz

Dutch collector Ed Veenstra collects all kinds of music-objects by plastic
artists (a total of around 3,500) who have worked with sound at some point
in their careers. Records, but also what he calls 'anti-records,' strange,
impossible and unclassifiable formats that approach the object from a
radically different perspective and exceed the traditional functions of the
medium. His thorough and detailed collection and classification work sheds
light on the art world's fascination with sound and music.

can you explain why you are campaigning for this person ?

are you sure he not guilty of tax evasion ?

does the fact that this campaign is supported by so many elite
organisation not make you question this campaign ?

i didn't note much interest or support in my case when i was arrested
every time i entered or exited the united kingdom or when i was
disappeared by the UK secret police and accused falsely of bomb threats
at a london airport - i was facing up to 7 years in prison

this was a result of my work with borders and identity and i still live
under surveillance

in the similar manner that no one benefits from my rise through the art
stratosphere, hence no rise or stardom, who is benefiting from Ai Weiwei
and his hyper inflation in the attention economy ?

Ai Weiwei campaign seems a classic case of elite people protecting their
own transgressions (tax evasion) and profiting from disaster capitalism
rather than universal human rights and human rights workers, such as
artists

would there be an international campaign by elite institutions to support
a independent artist, such as myself ?

this seems a very similar situation to julian assange. instead of
the social network supporting a member of the blood rank, we should be
supporting social justice and human rights and those that work using such
methods

Ai Weiwei is clearly a member of the international blood rank posing a
social networker - an astroturfer

this strikes me a co-option of the social network for the purposes and
values of the elite

hope you can answer some of these questions

hope you are well

Hallo Heath...

this seems a very similar situation to julian assange. instead of the social
network supporting a member of the blood rank, we should be supporting social
justice and human rights and those that work using such methods

Right, but I'd qualify it further --

I'd say people should be supporting (and adopting the practices of!) the small
silent voices of those who work in the outward direction of human obligations,
rather that the inward and self-centric direction of human rights, as Simone
Weil so correctly observed ... This would eliminate the economy of attention
just as surely as a cessation of shopping will eliminate capitalism ...
