[spectre] Ars Bioarctica Residency 2014 – Open Call - Kilpisjärvi/Lapland/Finland
Sorry for cross-posting - please distribute Ars Bioarctica Residency 2014 – Open Call Since 2010 the Finnish Society of Bioart is organizing the ARS BIOARCTICA RESIDENCY PROGRAM together with the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station of the University of Helsinki in the sub-Arctic Lapland. Until now 39 artists, scientists, and practitioners have been developing work at the Station - including Marko Peljhan and Matthew Biedermann from the Arctic Perspective Initiative, Oron Catts from Symbiotica or sound poet AGF. The residency takes place in the facilities of the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station. It provides the residents with a combined living and working environment, a basic laboratory, internet connection and sauna. The Kilpisjärvi Biological Station offers to the residents the same possibilities and infrastructure as its scientists and staff. This includes access to scientific equipment, laboratory facilities, the library and seminar room as well as the usage of field equipment. A dedicated contact person in Kilpisjärvi will familiarize residents with the local environment and customs. The emphasis of the residency is on the Arctic environment, artscience collaboration and is open for artists, scientists and interdisciplinary research teams. Applications have to include: * a completed application form available via http://bioartsociety.fi/ars-bioarctica-residency/ * a cv * a more detailed work plan if necessary Travel to and within Finland to Kilpisjärvi have to be covered by the applicant as well as the accommodation at the Station. The Finnish Society of Bioart will assist with the funding process. The evaluation of the applications emphasizes the quality of the proposal, its interaction of artscience, its artistic and scientific significance, the projects relation to the themes of Ars Bioarctica and its feasibility to be carried out at the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station in the given time. [spectre] Berlin 12.11: Touch presents: Achim Mohné, Sohrab, Jiyeon Kim, Philip Marshall
With Apologies for X-Posting *Tue, 12.11.13 - 20.30h* *ausland*, Lychenerstr. 60 1037 Berlin *TOUCH presents: ACHIM MOHN**É, SOHRAB, JIYEON KIM, PHILIP MARSHALL Dj set* *TOUCH* presents a triple bill of exploratory music with 3 artists each defining their own sonic territory. German artist Achim Mohné works across different media formats, blurring the edges between them and exploring unexpected uses of modern and outmoded technology. Sohrab is a Tehran born musician whose ambient works are both a product of his environment and a reaction against it. Korean sound artist Jiyeon Kim's experiments in resonance have led to an unconventional approach to field recording. www.touch33.net * ACHIM MOHNÉ* is a German artist who works across different media formats, blurring the edges between them and exploring unexpected uses of modern and outmoded technology. Previous sound works have made a focal point of the actual media format on which they're released with 2012 cassette release 'And It Could Have Been Dead…' (on The Tapeworm) focussing on audiotape itself: as material, as body, as signifier and as sculpture. Vinyl release 'One To Another' was a specially-designed one-sided vinyl with an empty groove which collected dust as the needle moved across it, changing the sound from total silence to a crackling and thundering music. www.achimmohne.de *SOHRAB* was born in Tehran in 1984. He was seven when the Iran-Iraq war ended. His name, from an old poem called 'Shahname', means 'rouge water', which can also mean 'blood'. He started a punk band with his brother and a friend, which lasted about two years before splitting. Sohrab is totally isolated in Iran, with little or no connection to what is happening there. He is currently stateless, applying for political asylum in Germany. In Iran, 70% of the population is under 30 years old, and this explosive social mix is causing trouble. Sohrab performed one illegal gig which was broken up by the police. He then took to performing alone in a desert or other place of wilderness. Various sound files were sent out before he himself left for Germany in late 2010. These files were assembled to form his first album, A Hidden Place, (Touch) which reflects his inner cultural isolation. www.touchmusic.org.uk/sohrabhttp://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.touchmusic.org.uk%2Fsohrabh=hAQH-oLzSenc=AZPcHTrDUKdqZ_LDZjsKSa6WxYWgpUEbxccqAolL_aiT_DL-SCA6AV908cY2-XqsbVcs=1 *JIYEON KIM *started her career as media art project producer, then she moved to the soundmaker/musician field. She mainly uses field recordings with sounds made with handmade analogue sound devices and acoustic objects as her source. Currently she experiments on resonating different materials in various methods with diy microphones, amplifiers, analogue oscillators, which leads her to develop unconventional ways of field recording. http://teum11.wordpress.comhttp://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fteum11.wordpress.com%2Fh=6AQHjTXKmenc=AZObCy8cAnHoYgQW6bAEYH0F_orLmX2V9mxV24yRspgVs44Sgbfc6lyoCIE2idWwYSIs=1 *PHILIP MARSHALL* Dj set Philip Marshall is a designer for print and digital media, living and working between London and Berlin. He is a close collaborator with the Touch/Ash International network, one third of 3-33.me and, since 2009, curator of The Tapeworm. He also holds the high office of Minister of Nothing in the Kingdoms of Elgaland-Vargaland. tapeworm.org.uk http://3-33.mehttp://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2F3-33.me%2Fh=AAQEI_4Kwenc=AZOHsTdlyCV5mSrnpEgV_SIkStZ33IxYR_G3h9bcgx8glKNMCK3klVW0e4M7r7ypIGks=1 www.ausland-berlin.de www.touch33.net __ SPECTRE list for media culture in Deep Europe Info, archive and help: http://post.in-mind.de/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/spectre
[spectre] Cyberfest 2013, Panel: Art Discourse in the Digital Age
Sorry for any cross posting... Cyberfest 2013 Panel: Art Discourse in the Digital Age Sunday 17th of November, Noon-2pm, The WYE (Berlin) With: Marco Mancuso, Founder of Digicult / Tatiana Bazzichelli, Curator Transmediale / Anna Frants, CoFounder CYLAND / Chatzistefanou Panagiotis, Publisher and Writer / Kate Martin, Curator and Arts Educator Held annually since 2007, CYBERFEST is the first and biggest festival for technologically based art in Russia. Growing over years to become a massive international event, CYBERFEST 2012 included more than 80 artists who exhibited throughout St Petersburg’s top institutions. This year, CYBERFEST 2013 will be held in Berlin: it is the first time this event has been held outside St Petersburg. This significant move was designed to strengthen the cultural exchange between art and technology creatives within Russia and their international counterparts. (www.cyland.org). On Sunday 17th of November, the last day of CYBERFEST, there will be a panel discussion on “Art Discourse in the Digital Age” in collaboration with transmediale reSource. The panel will start at 2pm in the WYE and will be led together between Sebestian Fuller, Leah Stuhltrager, and the reSource community, involving as speaker our transmediale curator Tatiana Bazzichelli, who is also part of the advisory board of the CYBERFEST festival. Panel’s abstract: The parameters of how art is seen, shared, discussed and archived have changed rapidly in the course of the last decade. The panel discussion between art critics and bloggers will explore the past, present and future of covering culture. As virtual audiences online swell to provide an unprecedented girth of eyes, brick/mortar spaces and print publications are being reconfigured to keep relevant in Contemporary Art. Coverage by veteran critics with sway culminated over long careers gaining strongholds in traditional sources under echelons of editors, advertisers and media moguls is now juxtaposed with the unbridled words and power of the internet to disseminate content. Means of archiving an artwork or exhibit for prosperity has expanded from circulations of traditional news coverage, photographs, slides to files, video and global viral mediums. Discourse about art has expended in form, function and voices. This panel will explore these realities and their implications. It will be followed by an open, earnest, face to face QA discussion between the critics, bloggers and the audience.
