[spectre] Call for papers or artistic presentations
Call for papers or artistic presentations Conference “Interactive Digital Art & Societal Health” Recently the research area “digital health” has been established and there has been a growing interest in the use of digital technologies for creative arts therapy, whose practice enriches people's lives, usually as part of a psychotherapy process. This conference asks what roles interactive digital art could play in societal health, including the needs of individuals, communities and populations. While digitisation may lead to isolation, separation and addiction of individuals and groups into social bubbles, interactive digital art tends to integrate social interaction of two or more persons situated in a physical environment into a mixed, augmented and virtual reality. More specifically, interactive digital art, i.e. art that allows real-time interaction of the performer or participant, is considered to enhance users’/clients’ freedom of expression, especially in cases where they are constrained by the physical environment, and to facilitate multimodal expression, combining images, sounds and/or body movements. The motivation of this call for papers or artistic presentations is to promote the usage of interactive digital art in healthcare and other daily life contexts where societal health plays a role both on a theoretical and practical level. We invite researchers, artists, engineers, designers and practitioners who work both in the fields of digital art and healthcare to apply and participate. Contributions to be invited can address (but are not limited to) the following questions: To what extent is social health promoted by interactive digital art? Which artistic media are particularly relevant? What are the benefits of interactive digital art as a means of creative arts therapy? What are methodological considerations concerning users’/clients’ assessments? What are future research directions? Which technologies and interactive environments are appropriate for a specific therapeutic purpose? The conference will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of December 2022 at the Heilig-Geist-Kapelle in Berlin. To apply, please send a short abstract (about 300 words) to marcello.luss...@hu-berlin.de by September 30, 2022 Organization: Prof. Dr. Jin Hyun Kim & Marcello Lussana, M.A. (Humboldt University of Berlin) within the scope of the research project “Social Interaction through Sound Feedback – Sentire” (https://www.musikundmedien.hu-berlin.de/de/musikwissenschaft/systematik/projekte/sentire-soziale-interaktion-durch-klang-feedback) __ SPECTRE list for media culture in Deep Europe Info, archive and help: http://post.in-mind.de/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/spectre
[spectre] OPEN CALL: The Augmented Attention Lab
OPEN CALL: The Augmented Attention Lab, 3-6 June in Bratislava (deadline Apr 15) Join us in Bratislava this summer for The Augmented Attention Lab, a 4-day pressure cooker that brings together a mix of practitioners from creative technology, music, art & design, consciousness research, anthropology and ecology to prototype new work that transforms and fine-tunes our attention towards sensing different types of change within the environment. For this edition of the lab we'll explore the subject by looking at qualitative methods such as ‘microphenomenology’, which is used to zoom in on the fine gradients of human experience of the world, as well as explore ways of ‘hacking’ sensory perception, through exercises and field trips within the city of Bratislava and beyond. We invite makers to come together to build new wearable/portable tools and develop sensory practices, that "augment" the body in order to sense environmental changes, happening at the threshold of the human sensory spectrum. The deadline for applications is April 15! Please pass the call around to anyone who you think would benefit from joining the lab. https://sensorycartographies.info/2019/04/02/open-call-the-augmented-attention-lab-at-sensorium-festival-bratislava-3-6-june/ __ SPECTRE list for media culture in Deep Europe Info, archive and help: http://post.in-mind.de/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/spectre
[spectre] Enhanced Sensing: Conference, Exhibition, Open-Call
Sentire presents: ENHANCED SENSING: CONFERENCE, EXHIBITION, OPEN-CALL A CONFERENCE "Enhanced sensing" is a conference and open-call aiming to create a frame for discussion on cognition and on human-technology Interaction, particularly in relation to movement and sound. "Enhanced sensing" is a platform initiated by the Sentire project to exchange ideas and experiences. We welcome any proper investigation on the topic. Sentire started as a performance series where proximity and touch events between the participants are transformed into sound, allowing a deep sensory experience. Sentire is now an ongoing cross-disciplinary research and it aims to develop an interactive sound system and a method that enhances cognitive sensory abilities of its users. Cognition is now considered a dynamic interplay of individual bodily and environmental processes, with the brain as a mediator of that interplay (Fuchs, 2011). How can interactive technology (such as Sentire) contribute to this interplay and enhance human sensing? In which way can interactive technology develop cognitive sensory abilities? As part of our discussions, we are pleased to have different researchers who have experienced and investigated the work of Sentire with different approaches. The result of these studies will be presented at the conference: * Dr. Miriam Kyselo, Philosopher/Cognitive Scientist, Berlin Center for Knowledge Research at the Technical University of Berlin, founder of Inter-Self Lab, https://inter-self.com/ * Jun.Prof. Dr. Jin Hyun Kim / Assistant Professor, Systematic Musicology at Humboldt University of Berlin, here * Marcello Lussana, Phd student at the musicology department of the Humboldt University of Berlin Place: Spektrum Art Science Community, Berlin Date: 12 of April 2018, 16:00-20:00 OPEN-CALL The main goal of these events is to create a platform for networking and shaping the community of people working in between music, arts and science. Motivated by this cross-disciplinary need, we are happy to announce an open-call for short presentations of projects or studies about human-technology interaction, particularly in relation to movement and sound. The call is addressed to a wide range of researchers and practitioners including academics, artists, musicians, dancers and movement researchers, cognitive scientists, philosophers, and inventors. Requirements: - topic of the presentation has to be related to the theme of the conference “Enhanced sensing”: cognition, human-technology interaction, particularly in relation to movement and sound. - format of the project can be one of the following: presentation, screening, sound/audio work, installation, prototype, device, instrument. -participants will be invited to present their work in one of the two possible formats: a talk within the conference (no longer than 20 min) or displaying and presenting the project in the exhibition space -the presence of the author is required Interested individuals and collectives may apply by filling and sending a form: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1byiQHJ0ufP7VULXzHPIzI-nOU5maOJwL email address for application: he...@sentire.me theme for email with application: enhanced sensing open-call Dead-line: 29 of March 2018 Successful applications will be invited to present the project or study. Please note: This conference is self organized and we are not able to offer a fee for your participation. We also don't cover production, accommodation, and transport costs. You will be granted a free entrance at the evening event and, if necessary, an official letter about your participation.
