[speedtouch] Re: modem_run cause lockup
Thank you for clarifying that for me. I am using version 1.1, should I try with other versions? Thanks! Appologies about my email client. I noticed that on the first message I posted it was not displaying in the list properly, and am now using Gmail so it should format and display correctly. Driver version: Sorry, but how do I find this infomation? I have tried with several files, such as mgmt.o, alcaudsl.sys (from my win xp system), kqd6p1.eni from the Thomson website. Gilles Espinasse suggested I try zzzl3_012 from here http://www.speedtouch.com/driver_upgrade_lx_3.0.1.2.htm but unfortunately this did not work either (nor did the other file in the archive). Same problem for all files. Thanks! Daniel On Wed, 10 Nov 2004 23:53:34 +0100, Benoit PAPILLAULT <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Daniel JC Fisher a écrit : > > It appears not. Gilles Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se désinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately, it still does not work (same problem as before - console appears to lock up, and ugen0 still registers as "busy" afterwoulds). This was with #modem_run -m -v 2 -f KQD6_3.012 and #modem_run -m -v 2 -f ZZZL_3.012 . Logging on to a second virtual terminal and attempting to start PPP still does not work. Is there anything else I should try? Thanks! Daniel Liste de diffusion modem ALCATEL SpeedTouch USB Pour se désinscrire : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[speedtouch] modem_run cause lockup
Hello, All! I'm attempting to run a FreeBSD 4.9 STABLE box with a K6-2 300, 32MB RAM as my home internet gateway, firewall and router. I have a silver-coloured speedtouch 330. It works fine under WinXP, and both lights go green under FreeBSD. FreeBSD seems to recognize it ok as dmesg | grep ugen0 reveals: ugen0: THOMSON Speed Touch 330 , rev 1.10/4.00, addr 2 Unfortunately, despite religeous adherance to the steps here: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/speedtouch/speedtouch/doc-bsd/INSTALL?rev=HEAD the modem does not work. Files were extracted, maked, and maked installed with no apparent problems, /etc/ppp/ppp.conf was modified, but unfortnately #modem_run -f /usr/local/libdata/mgmt.o -m /usr/local/libdata/mgmt.o: Not a directoy. ls /usr/local/libdata reveals there is nothing there. I copy the mgmt.o file again, and there is still nothing there. Loading the mgmt.o file from its original location apparently causes the terminal to hang. That is, no "#" prompt is shown, typing ls prints "ls" on the screen but no directly listing, ctrl-z does nothing, etc. However, I can still log in as root on a second virtual terminal. Coping mgmt.o to /usr/libdata seems to be effective in that the mgmt.o file along with 7 others displays in te directory listing, but loading the file from there again causes the terminal to "hang", as above. I've tried loading mgmt.o, alcaudsl.sys (the windows driver), even the kqd6p1.eni files that came from the Thomson website: http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/dvrreg_lx.htm (after renaming them all to mgmt.o, of course). Adding the modem_run -v 2 option does not change the results, and nothing appears on the screen. Logging into a second virtual terminal and typing #modem_run -f /usr/libdata/mgmt.o -m reveals: pusb_search_open: couldn't open device /dev/ugen0: Device bsy I'm sorry, I didn't find your ADSL modem! Typing #ppp -background adsl reveals: Working in background mode Using interface: tun0 Child failed (errdead) I even tried forcing modem_run to use ugen0, as detailed in the FAQ. Unfortunately, this did not work either. It is completely possible I have made a clueless newbie mistake as I am rather new to *nix. ALl the same, can anybody help me please? More infomation can be provided upon request (provided you tell me how to find that infomation lol!)
