Hi,

The current QXL driver is not Windows 10 compatible. Is there a new version in
development or can I force the use of the current WDDM driver?

I use version 0.1-21 from http://www.spice-space.org/download/windows/qxl/

Thanks in advance,

For win7 guests, I think ICH6 is recommended. For older Windows, AC97 might be

Ok, I did some more tests and got it working now.
Instead of using Intel HDA device I switched to AC97 and installed the latest
Realtek AC97 driver.
I also tested celt vs. opus, but with Intel HDA devices the clicking is present
with both codecs.

Now no more clicking with AC97, sound is running very well now.

Codec selection is automatic, with Opus being favoured over celt if both
spice-server/QEMU and spice-gtk support it. If you want to test with celt, you
can recompile spice-gtk without Opus support and with celt support.

Hi Qiang,

thanks for the info.
But I'm not really sure what I can do here.
I don't use xserver-xorg-video-qxl as I'm using a Windows guest with the win
qxl driver.
On the thin client there's an Ubuntu 14.04 running using some intel driver as
it's a Celeron based board.

Also I didn't find the patched file you were mentioning. I guess it's part of
xserver-xorg-video-qxl, right?

Hi, Klaus

I met the same issue, like you saied: hear a regular click (sort of) every few
seconds.

what I do is: rebuild xserver-xorg-video-qxl, spice, qemu. Everything goes fine.

Please make sure your code include this patch:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/spice-devel/2014-April/016645.html

Opus requires a frequency of 48000; it will not operate at 44100 If you want to
know which codec is used, you need to enable debug.

Try to print more log like;
  sin->st->frequency = SND_CODEC_CELT_PLAYBACK_FREQ; /* Default to

For client make sure the client_can_opus=1 snd_codec_is_capable is True

Hope it can help you.

[Spice-devel] Sound problems

2014-11-15 Thread Klaus Hochlehnert
Hi,

I just played around with some spice options as I have sound problems with a
Windows 7 guest.
It's a bit choppy and I hear a regular click (sort of) every 1-2 seconds.

Video performance is ok although I can't watch Full-HD videos smoothly, but the
max size of the video is ok.

So I tested some option combinations like streaming-video, image-compression,
playback-compression, ...
But I haven't found a combination that works.

As device I added intel-hda and hda-micro.
I use qemu 2.1.1 & spice 0.12.5 compiled with celt and opus.

I was wondering how I can switch between the codecs to hear if one is working
better than the other?
How can I even see which codec is used (currently I don't see and
qemu/virt-viewer option)?

Thanks, Klaus

Re: [Spice-devel] Build from source

2014-05-06 Thread Klaus Hochlehnert
Hi,

that worked, but I had to change it in all configure.ac files:
  configure.ac
  spice-common/configure.ac
  spice-common/spice-protocol/configure.ac

After that I ran into the next issue:
  make[4]: Entering directory `/usr/src/spice-gtk-20140507/spice-common/common'
Makefile:511: .deps/generated_client_demarshallers.Plo: No such file or
directory

The directory where this file was located looks unsubstituted:
  drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 18 May 7 02:12 $(srcdir)/

So I copied the files to the right directory:
  cp spice-common/common/\$\(srcdir\)/.deps/* spice-common/common/.deps

Next error was then:
  make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/src/spice-gtk-20140507/gtk'
Makefile:1329: ../spice-common/common/.deps/sw_canvas.Plo: No such file or
directory

Also there was an unsubstituted looking directory:
  drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 25 May 7 02:12 $(top_srcdir)/

Also copied this:
  cp gtk/\$\(top_srcdir\)/spice-common/common/.deps/* spice-common/common/.deps

Then I ran into this problem:
  make[3]: Entering directory `/usr/src/spice-gtk-20140507/doc/reference'
DOC Scanning header files
DOC Introspecting gobjects
/usr/bin/ld: .libs/spice-gtk-scan.o: undefined reference to symbol
'gtk_cell_area_class_list_cell_properties'
//usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgtk-3.so.0: error adding symbols: DSO missing
from command line
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
  Linking of scanner failed:
  make[3]: *** [scan-build.stamp] Error 1

As a workaround I disabled html doc generation in ./configure

After that it worked till the end...

Thanks, Klaus

g_clear_pointer was introduced in glib 2.34.
Likely, your glib is older than 2.34.
https://developer.gnome.org/glib/unstable/glib-Memory-Allocation.html#g-clear-pointer

Try to define it yourself, for example as done in spice-gtk/gtk/glib-compat.h

[Spice-devel] Win 7 guest immediately freezes when starting Outlook 2010

2014-02-05 Thread Klaus Hochlehnert
Hi,

I have 2 Win 7 Guests that immediately freezes when starting Outlook 2010.
That only happens when connected via spice. When using RDP or VNC everything is
ok.

I attached with gdb to the frozen qemu process and here's the call stack:

Re: [Spice-devel] Crashes with newest spice

2013-11-26 Thread Klaus Hochlehnert
Hi Christophe,

yes looks like this fixes the crashes.

What still happens is the "yellow flashing" background of selection boxes in
Outlook 2010.
I attached a screenshot where you can see another background color when the
mouse moves over (actually any part of the selection box/text area).
It changes the color for maybe 0,5 seconds.

I also check other applications and it looks like it's only Outlook.

Thanks,
Klaus

Looking at the backtrace, this is a known issue fixed by
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/spice/spice-gtk/commit/?id=02c4d61263230e3dbd7900822677c720045b80cf

[Spice-devel] Crashes with newest spice

2013-11-22 Thread Klaus Hochlehnert
Hi,

I've upgraded my systems to the newest released versions of qemu/spice.

But with this versions I get continuously crashes of remote-viewer when using
Windows7 as guest.
Basically the crash occurs immediately when using Outlook 2010 and configuring
a new Email account.
Also the background of the select boxes switches to yellow when the mouse
pointer moves over it.

Used versions:
Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop
spice-0.12.4
spice-gtk-0.21
spice-protocol-0.12.6
virt-viewer-0.5.7 (also tested 0.5.6, but no difference)
spice-guest-tools-0.65.1.exe

I ran it through strace and used gbd. Here's the data:

Ok, adding

Re: [Spice-devel] virt-viewer toogles numlock state...

2013-03-06 Thread Klaus Hochlehnert
Sorry for the confusion.

With spice client I meant the "physical client host" running Ubuntu Desktop
12.04 (amd64).
As spice client software I used virt-viewer 0.5.5 and spice-gtk version is 0.18

What client OS, what versions of spice-gtk/virt-viewer? I'm not sure what you
mean by 'spice clients that uses virt-viewer' as virt-viewer is a spice client
using spice-gtk.
There used to be such a bug on Windows clients, but it should be fixed in newer
versions of spice-gtk/virt-viewer.

[Spice-devel] virt-viewer toogles numlock state...

2013-03-05 Thread Klaus Hochlehnert
Hi,

on three spice clients that uses virt-viewer I've seen today that it toggles
the numlock state when logging off from a Windows 7 guest.

First connect with logon
- Numlock LED is on and the number block is working
Log Off from Windows guest without disconnecting
- Numlock LED is on and the number block is not working
Pressing the Num key
- Numlock LED is off and the number block is working
Log Off from Windows guest without disconnecting
- Numlock LED is off and the number block is not working
and so on...

Any idea?

Thanks,
Klaus

Re: [Spice-devel] spice crashes

Hi,

uninstalling blnsvr.exe did it for me. No more crashes.
Even if I change the troubleshooting settings of the graphics card to "Max
Acceleration".

Interesting. Bruce, can you provide the dump file (it can be a kernel dump only
to save space) and the version of win-qxl-debug that you used? (was it from the
guest-tools 0.2 ?)

[Spice-devel] Mouse pointer problem

2013-02-28 Thread Klaus Hochlehnert
Hi,

after changing my qemu command line from
-vga qxl
-global qxl-vga.ram_size=67108864
-global qxl-vga.vram_size=67108864
to
-device qxl-vga,id=video0,ram_size=67108864,vram_size=67108864,bus=pci.0

I couldn't see the mouse pointer anymore.
The mouse itself is working (I can see highlighted icons, ... when moving the
mouse).
When switching back to -vga... everything is working fine again.

Is there anything wrong with the -device version?

Thanks,
Klaus

Re: [Spice-devel] spice crashes

2013-02-27 Thread Klaus Hochlehnert
After upgrading to 0.52 I also have crashes on this host.
Somehow it looks like it's related the guest tools.

One difference I saw was that the balloon service was active which wasn't the
case with 0.2.
I removed the service and will see what happens now...

The spice guest tools version.txt was "virtio-win 0.1.30" (don't know which

Will report if there's any issue now with 0.52.

Hello,

I don't know the English wording, but in the German version of win7 if you set:

Systemsteuerung\Alle
Systemsteuerungselemente\Anzeige\Bildschirmauflösung\Erweiterte
Einstellungen\Problembehandlung

to the fourth position

I I I I I I
 ^

things work better.

Best regards,

Does maybe an older version (e.g. 0.12.0) of spice help?

I just like to know if there are any plans to make local CD/DVD drives
available to the client?
Currently I use a "hardware workaround" and connect internal drives using a
SATA/USB converter to an internal USB port.

But these components are hard to get for slim line DVD drives.
So could this also be done on block device level?

Thanks,
Klaus

Re: [Spice-devel] Windows Guest Tools 0.2

2012-12-09 Thread Klaus Hochlehnert
Hi Christophe,

just found a small issue...

When upgrading from spice-guest-tools-0.1 without uninstalling them first I got
an error that the vdagent can't be copied.
The vdagent service was still running.
Maybe you could add stopping the service at the beginning of the installation
procedure.

Thanks and great work,
Klaus

Hey everyone,

I've just pushed a new release of the SPICE Guest Tools for Windows. This
includes the virtio-win 0.1-30 drivers [1], a git snapshot of the Windows agent
built with mingw (git SHA1: b264830), and a newer version of the QXL driver
which has arbitrary resolution support.
You can download it from
http://spice-space.org/download/binaries/spice-guest-tools/spice-guest-tools-0.2.exe

Enjoy, and feel free to report any issues with it!

Christophe

[Spice-devel] Already connected USB devices...

2012-11-20 Thread Klaus Hochlehnert
Hi,

I was wondering if it's possible to auto connect already plugged-in USB devices
when virt-viewer starts?
We're using an Ubuntu-client with virt-viewer and SPICE and this client has
permanently a card reader plugged in.

Thanks,
Klaus
