[Spooks] UNID Spy Numbers Or Spoof 6955 AM 1527 UTC
Visit http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/spooks to unsubscribe from this list The following series of numbers were transmitted on 6955 kHz AM, today at 1527 UTC: 6 15 1 8 20 7 14 9 4 14 5 16 13 9 16 4 13 3 25 14 14 21 2 18 15 6 20 14 5 4 9 19 5 18 16 15 12 4 9 19 19 25 5 11 14 15 13 1 9 1 9 1 9 1 9 I suspect that it is 1) a simple substitution cipher and 2) mostly likely a spoof vs a real numbers station (but you never know). Anyone care to take a stab at decoding it? Visit http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/spooks to unsubscribe from this list Hi all, It looks like a simple number/character sub. 1-26 = a-z. Just for the fun of it I decoded it and here is what I came up with... Some of it didn't make sense but the middle of the text was a combo of backwards/forward words; CMD BUNNY FOR PRESIDENT . Its a good exercise in simple decoding for anyone who wants the practice. Looks like the infamous Commander Bunny strikes again (grin) John Marchand. K1RC Dracut, MA. Re: [Spooks] [UDXF] UNID Spy Numbers Or Spoof 6955 AM 1527 UTC
Visit http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/spooks to unsubscribe from this list It's definitely a substitution cipher (as stated previously), but it looks as though some of the corresponding letter / number pairs are shifted differently depending on where they are in the sequence. It's also possible that some of the numbers were transmitted or copied incorrectly; notes on that below. Where a=1, z=26, sequence is straight-through: f o a h t g n i d n e p m i 6 15 1 8 20 7 14 9 4 14 5 16 13 9 Translated: 'thaof impending'. Suspect partial transmit / copy. 16 4 13 3 25 14 14 21 2 18 15 6 20 14 5 4 9 19 5 18 16 p d m c y n n u b r o f t n e d i s e r p Translated: 'cmdp bunny for president'. Suspect that first number should be '18' to give first word 'cmdr', the abbreviation for 'commander'. p l d i s s y e k n o m a i a i a i a i 15 12 4 9 19 19 25 5 11 14 15 13 1 9 1 9 1 9 1 9 Translated: 'iaiaiaia monkeys sidlp'. Suspect that 'iaiaiaia' should translate to, 'ha ha ha ha,' which would be in keeping with the tone of previous CB broadcasts. It's difficult to believe that '9' would have been mis-copied for '8' (which would give 'h', and fit the pattern hypothesised above) in that sequence, so perhaps this was a transmission where the wrong ciphertext or misciphered text was sent by mistake. Given the plain English words appearing elsewhere in the sequences, this seems at least plausible. - J.
