Some gigantic cover art or massive comment tags ?

Re encode them to new flac files ?

Assuming the Touch is wired 24/96 over wifi is somewhat unreliable ,

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Buffering issue with some 24-96 FLAC's on SB Touch

2016-07-06 Thread leinster-lad

Guys,
I have an interesting issue that has become apparent recently while
trying to play a 24-96 FLAC.

I have a few 24-96 Flacs in my library, and they have all played without
issue until. As afr as I can tell, this buffering issue relates to only
one album. It is a 24-96 with tracks around the 3500 - 5000 kbps VBR.

I have attached a screen grab of the data stream.
The first peak is the beginning of a Fleetwood mac 24-96 track. There
are no buffering issues with that track, it plays straight away with no
buffering or delay.
The second BIGGER/FATTER peak is the beginning of the 10cc track that
buffers and takes a couple of seconds to start playing.

In both cases, you can see that the data stream settles down and is
continuous.
Once the 10cc track starts playing, there is no stuttering or buffering.
It plays good.

When opening the 10cc album folder in windows or MP3Tag or FooBar, it
opens/loads REALLY slowly. All other 24-96 Flacs open/load very quick,
as per normal.

I know that I could just delete this album, but I am really curious as
to WHY ???
I have done all the usual stuff.
Stripped out the tags and redone them
Removed all album art etc.

I have now run out of ideas and call upon your experience.
Thanks !

I don't use crossfade/smartcrossfade but IIRC there was a patch to 7.9
about crossfade to avoid under some circumstances a loud burst of white
noise - I wonder whether there is some "corner" issue that you have
encountered. If you upgraded LMS to 7.9 recently perhaps some of the
prefs didn't migrate properly and are now set up correctly.

If it has gone away then don't bother yourself anymore about the why.

So now I don't know what's going on! It was definitely on no sync, and
also no crossfade or bit rate limiting. But smart crossfade was
enabled. I disabled it and it is now working! But then I turned smart
crossfade back on again and it still works. In fact, now I can't stop
it working ...

So thanks for fixing it - but I wish I knew how it had gone wrong.

No easy way because "corruption" can comes from many sources such as
plugins.

For the moment try to sort out the sync issue - go into the WebUI
Setting/Player/Synchronization and make sure the first entry
"Synchronization" has "No synchronisation" . If not - change it and
click Apply.

Seriously though, setting all plugins aside, if I use the built in 'Tune

get stuck waiting.

Can't hurt to do a xlinx reset on the misbehaving SB3.

SB3 Xilinx Reset: Unplug power from SB3, press and hold down the one
(1) button on the SB3 remote while pointing at the SB3, plug power back
in to SB3 (while continuing to hold down the "one" button. Should see a
message about doing the xlinx reset on the SB3 screen. Let it finish

I noticed in the log that you seemed to have played BBCiPlayer stream

hardware is at fault. Do a Xilinx reset just to be sure.

OK so this is a bit weird.

I have another SB3 which I don't use as much. I just got it out and
tried it, and it will play the 48kHz mp3s fine.

Two explanations spring to mind:

1) There is something incorrectly defined for the MAC address of the
failing player. Can I make the server "forget" the player and recreate
its config from scratch?

2) There is something wrong with the hardware of the player. Although
this seems unlikely, one reason it might be possible is because, for
some time, I have been getting occassional crashes. It comes up with a
message, sometimes "nb alloc failed in slimproto", sometimes a different
one about "make_space" and then reboots. It usually comes back fine and
continues where it left off.

For now, I'm going to swap the two over and see how I get on. But it
would be good to know if the other one is on it's way out. I suppose I
can't expect them to last forever ...

You wouldn't have accidentally installed custom-convert.conf. So that's
not likely it. I'm out of ideas, but I see bpa has posted. He has more
technical understanding of what might be happening.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] SB3 won't play 48 kHz MP3s anymore

2016-07-06 Thread bpa

The indication of getting to 6 secs and then restarting - shows that LMS
is waiting for something to happen (e.g. transcoding process) and it
fails. So enable logging WebUI Settings/Advanced/Logging player.source
to DEBUG and then try to play a problem track (note time of just before
you start the track). After 10 secs. Clear playlist to stop. Post
lines from log file between notes starte time and end. Post log in a
post or if too big -copy log into a text file, zip it then post the text
file.

Just added lame.exe to my server bin directory and that doesn't seem to
have changed anything.

Brilliant - thanks for replying.

I haven't deliberately done anything special but I do recall a lot of
fiddling to get the iPlayer working when the BBC changed it. Don't
think I did anything myself beyond the instructions though.

I am just using the analog outs. I also have a Duet - I don't use it
much but I just tested and that plays the 48kHz ones fine.

I looked at the File Types section and that says MP3 = Native.

I don't think I've changed my convert.conf but looking in it it has a
section which says:

Code:

# special case for smart bitrates on mp3 input
  mp3 mp3 transcode *
# IFB:{BITRATE=--abr %B}D:{RESAMPLE=--resample %D}
[lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ $BITRATE$ $RESAMPLE$ --mp3input $FILE$ -

Presumably that's standard but maybe not? I don't see lame running when
it's failing to play. But maybe I haven't even told the server where
lame is - I don't do any transcoding normally.

If I had a custom convert.conf is there somewhere else it might be (ie
not in the server directory)?

I'll try installing a different version tonight, if I get time, but I
haven't done it so far because I'm nervous I'll lose all my config. On
the other hand, I think the only important customisations are iPlayer
and spotify, so they are probably not too difficult to recreate. Maybe
I should also try reinstalling from scratch with 7.9

Thanks again

Haha *ding!* you found Waldo ;)

Seriously though, setting all plugins aside, if I use the built in 'Tune
In URL' and queue two different HTTP streams of fixed length (not
radio), there is no cross-fade. Is that expected behaviour?
