Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Has LMS new bug with german "Umlaute" at top folder from library?

2017-07-26 Thread drmatt

You will need to install utf-8 support at least, I would guess.

For what it's worth even on a full blown Debian install with full locale
support I've usually stripped non base ASCII characters from filenames
anyway and only allow accented characters inside the id3 tags.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Streaming radio - buffer display info what does it mean?

2017-07-26 Thread kidhazy

I'm diagnosing some streaming radio re-buffering issues (I believe the
problem is with my Internet provider as it's occurring on wired and
wireless Booms, Classics).

To help, I've turned on the "Buffer" display on the now-playing Music
Information Screen on my Booms.

I just wanted to confirm what the numbers that are displayed mean:

I see a display similar to: 283KB / 9.5 (or more typically 1KB / 2.0
when it's getting bad)

I assume the first number is the connection speed? Is it from the
server to the streaming service, or player to the service?
The 2nd number I thought was the buffer full %, but the highest it goes
is 10.0 (even when I max out the Radio Station buffer to 30 seconds)

Finally, any additional tips to improve radio streaming performance in
general. My issues appear to be with international stations (eg.
Deezer, Pandora) as local stations are not too bad (leading me to think
the issue is more my ISP than LMS/Boom related)

I'm running LMS V7.9.1 - 1499900819

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Has LMS new bug with german "Umlaute" at top folder from library?

2017-07-26 Thread paul-

File systems and charactersets ..oh boy. Being in the US, I
struggle to find files to download with the special characters..as I
cannot really type them from my keyboard. It makes it hard for me to
troubleshoot.

piCorePlayer does not come with OS support for UTF-8. The OS is really
stripped, it uses ISO8859-1 by default. This was never an issue until
LMS is installed on it.That being said, I think FAT32 based devices
were the ones that had problems with special characters. If you
install the extra filesystem support(found on the LMS tab on the web
page) This will add UTF-8 support to FAT32 formatted USB devices.
(Must be running pCP3.21)
EXT4 and NTFS drives should have been fine. CIFS shares should have
been fine too.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] DNS network issue

2017-07-26 Thread d6jg

The QNAP is a great bit of kit but as others have said it is difficult
to install later versions of LMS on it.

Use it for what it is good at - storing and sharing files - and as
Ronnie says consider a Pi3 with either piCorePlayer or Max2Play and
point it at the files on the NAS

The Pi3 is (perhaps surprisingly) quite a bit more powerful than your
NAS.

This is the route that Michael Herger (author of Spotty and LMS itself)
has chosen to go himself.

PS I used 7.7.x and 7.8 on a QNAP for quite a few years but each upgrade
was a PITA. I moved LMS to alternate hardware with files on QNAP ages
ago. It's better.

If you are thinking about updating lms on the Qnap, then v.7.8 is as far
as you can go easily with SSOTS without messing with the Qnap.

I would say to give it up now and invest in a raspberry pi 3b, install
LMS v7.9.1 on the pi and keep your music files on the nas.

People here will help with set-up (we like a bit a grief and
schadenfreude )

I know this behaviour has been mentioned before - not sure if it was
fixed in any version. I'd go for 7.9.1 if possible but I'd check other
thread for any issues with QNAP (sometimes libraries are an issue)

The alternative would be to add a delay to LMS startup when the QNAP
boots.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Has LMS new bug with german "Umlaute" at top folder from library?

2017-07-26 Thread Michael Herger
Browse Music Folder doesn't use the library. No scan required.

This might be a limitation by piCorePlayer. AFAIK it doesn't come with full
locale support. And even if it was it might depend on how you mount the drive,
what protocol you're using, what file system etc. Tons of parameters.

Just for an update on this thread. Installed new version of Max2play and
added the Spotty plugin.

I possibly could have got away with just updating the LMS version to
7.9.1 and added the Spotty pluginbut went the whole hog.

Have you looked at Music & Artist Information plugin ?
It gives a context menu to a track with Artist & Album information

I was thinking about moving Composer to the field were I have the band

Fiddling with slimserver.css is above my knowledge, I don't dare to to

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] DNS network issue

2017-07-26 Thread bpa

You have an oldish version of LMS and IIRC there used to be a problem if
LMS was started before network connection was up - all DNS request from
LMS would fail as LMS thinks network connection is not running.

You can test if this is the issue - restart just LMS (i.e. not reboot or
restart of qnap) - network connection should be up when LMS is restarted
and so DNS request should work.

The address resolves fine from here.
LMS uses the DNS from the NAS.
I'd suggest you change the DNS on the NAS to say 8.8.8.8 (Google public
DNS) and reboot the whole thing.
