Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server on Ubuntu 20.04

2020-10-02 Thread BosseJ

Now that Ubuntu has released the ".1" upgrade to 20.04, is there any
experience on running LMS on this?
I have read alex.h's excellent start script (linked in a post above)
which explains that the start-stop-daemon is discontinued in 20.04 and I
wonder if anything has changed since, such as incorporating alex-h's
startscipt in LMS or someone has provided an update of the
start-stop-daemon script in Ubuntu. Or some other solution.

Any update on this? I recently upgraded to Catalina and started having
the same problems. After giving FULL DISC ACCESS to everything
mentioned in this thread, I STILL can't run the latest nightly build and
had to revert back to LMS 7.9.1. I do have a Time Machine backup of my
Mac Mini and my revert back to High Sierra from it.

Thanks to everyone for their help with this.

Hi,

Sure I can provide all the logs you want.
I'll upgrade this weekend to the latest version again and give you full
log.
Could you please share which kind of log would be the most useful?
Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Public stream on demand, with control locked down?

2020-10-02 Thread mafyou

For any future readers:

I eventually wanted to remote control the stream via my phone so I
started a Wireguard VPN on a Raspberry Pi:
https://www.sigmdel.ca/michel/ha/wireguard/wireguard_02_en.html

That was simpler and more effective than I'd figured. Works very well.
Wouldn't recommend it to total Linux newbies exactly, though that guide
is pretty comprehensive.

The Pi also handles the icecast stream via Squeezelite playing to an
ALSA loopback. I didn't have any issues in Windows with the virtual
cable, but it's nice to have all that business handled by a headless Pi
instead.

Guess i have all i need now to do a remote Squeezelite player, but
haven't bothered yet.

That's what we're trying to figure out but without logs, it takes 3-4
times as many posts to make progress.

The obvious difference is the change in the SSL libraries but we need
hard info to rules out possibilties such as: are you definitely not
playing https stream (need a log to confirm as caching & redirection can
affect this) and not transcoding (need a log to confirm).

There are many LMS instances where Windows behaves differently for
different users even though all on the same LMS s/w. Small changes in
Windows setup can have big effect.
I had a problem in a plugin which reliably showed up on old low spec
systems (e.g. 2 core) or high end 8 core big mem - middle range systems
were mostly ok.

The network connection breakdown is clear in the logs.
More work is needed to find cause of breakdown e.g. network connection,
Windows, LMS, firewall etc. It will be tedious as your problem so far
cannot be replicated by others
This work will be quicker if you provide logs. To your eyes a log may
appear uneventful but sometimes what's missing in a log provide the
clue.

Hi,

Thanks for your time on this issue.
LMS runs on a Windows 10 Pro PC connected using Ethernet to Internet Box
(FTTH in my case) with a very high speed/low latency connection.
No Wifi for that and the player is also connected using Ethernet.
It may be on FIP side but I don't understand why I don't have pb with
the late August version...

Thanks
Best.
