Squeezelite v1.9.1-1139

IO::Socket::SSL: 1.966

OpenSSL 0.9.8zh 14 Jan 2016

MacOS 10.11.6 (last supported OS for that machine)

Good track "Barroom Girls" converted just fine. Bad track "The Way It
Goes" did not convert at all. Had to Control-c to stop it. The whole
album "The Harrow & The Harvest" will not play via squeezebox. It's
unfortunately not the only album I've discovered so far.

This may be "off the wall" but there is a lot of "spinning" going on in

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.3 on MacOS 10.11.6 does not play some ALAC files

2020-10-14 Thread bpa

File sort of looks OK. You didn't show the "File Format" but the screen
shot shows enough (i.e file type = alc)

Tags seem to be read OK by LMS.

>From the log it looks like player is not capable of native ALAC or
native ALAC is disabled.

So ALAC is being transcoded into Flac and since ALAC may be hi-res - the
ALC->FLC transcode rule is set up to use sox so that it can resample if
necessary
The resulting transcode command looks OK as resampling part of sox is
not "active"

Code:

"/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin-x86_64/faad"
 -q -w -f 1 "/Volumes/Big iTunes/Music/Gillian Welch/Revival/04 Barroom
Girls.m4a" |
"/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin-x86_64/sox"
 -q -t wav - -t flac -C 0 -

So time to verify that faad can really handle the problem files.

Can you check this command works from a Terminal

Code:

"/Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin-x86_64/faad"
 -w -f 1 "/Volumes/Big iTunes/Music/Gillian Welch/Revival/04 Barroom Girls.m4a"
>testoutput.wav

It should generate a wav file called testoutput.wav . The "-q" option is
removed so I think it will generate log output to stderr.

Try the same command with good/bad file instead of "04 Barroom
Girsl.m4a"

The version of the squeezelite player is usually shown on the LMS
information page (LMS => Settings => Information). Close to the bottom
of this page there is a section "Player Information" with information
about players that are connected with LMS.

For example, following information is shown for my piCorePlayer:
Player Model: SqueezeLite
Player Type: squeezelite
Firmware: v1.9.7-1278-pCP

In this example the version of Squeezelite is v1.9.7-1278-pCP

| LMS 8.0 | Squeezebox Boom | RPi0W + pCP 6.1.0 + HiFiBerry DAC Zero |

They are indeed different. But know that these tracks play fine using
iTunes Home Sharing, Sonos, OpenHome, and Roon (in Trial Mode).

Using HiFiBerryOS 20200708. Unsure how to check which version of
Squeezelite is installed. Same problems exist when streaming to Sonos
via the UPnP DLNA bridge.

This is a very vanilla installation. I've installed these plugins:
UPnP/DLNA bridge
UPnP/DLNA Media Interface
Chromecast Bridge

No changes were made to upsampling on my part; still using the defaults.

I would suggest using a (modern) version of -apt- to install the
package, rather than -dpkg-. It deals with dependencies, but -dpkg-
doesn't.

See thread: -Debian packages update - Possible dpkg failure-

That's rather curious. -start-stop-daemon- is provided by package
-dpkg-, which is an 'essential' package in both Debian and Ubuntu. Is
Ubuntu 20.04 the same as 'focal' ? If so, it does seem to be included in
Ubuntu's -dpkg-. Refer: https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/dpkg.

Which raises a question: how did your system end up with a link to
-/bin/true - ? Is this a known Ubuntu behaviour that is, perhaps, caused
by something else ?

I may be missing something.

I'm think there is some different in the file layout. (e.g. metadata at
end of file rather than at start)

The error message & CPU indicates that faad has got stuck processing the
files.

Are good and bad files in MPEG4 format ?

* Metadata layout - is metadata mdat at start or end of file ?
* what metadata are in the files ?
* When you drill down to a bad track in LMS Web GUI - what "File Format"
is shown for the file ? What metadata tags does LMS find under "View

* Are File Format and tags different to a good track ?
