Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] END OF MY ROPE! "Can't connect to server..."
I too use a TPLink Archer C7 and find it to be an excellent router. I used to have frequent interruptions and inability to connect to the server when I ran LMS on my Windows 7 then 8 then 10 PC. Since I switched to using a Raspberry Pi 3 running PicorePlayer I have had basically zero issues. The most difficult part for me was getting it to see my music but once I sorted all of that out it has been running perfectly for about a year now. I have occasionally experienced some buffering when playing back some internet radio streams but that could very well be the radio station or brief slow downs in my internet connection causing that problem. In my setup my server that I use as a player also and my primary living room player (an Rpi running picoreplayer connected to a 7 inch touchscreen) are both wired but my bedroom Radio and theater room Classic are wireless. We have four iPads, two iphones and a Kindle Fire that all connect wirelessly without issues. I am not a computer guy and can't speak for technical reasons why but I believe that all of the bloat and background processes that Windows machines are constantly running probably interferes with LMS causing disruptions. Before you go spending gobs of money on Sonos I would at least try running LMS on an Rpi to see if your issues aren't related to your Windows PC. usc95's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59694 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108745 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] TIDAL connection thru LMS only streams at MP3 quality
Are you sure you aren't getting the FLAC stream? I believe that statement is just a disclaimer just in case you do not have a HIFI subscription but were expecting FLAC. I use the Ipeng app and it reports I am streaming the FLAC version of Spoon's album Hot Thoughts even though I also see that same statement when I open the Tidal plugin. I also know that even for HIFI subscribers there are numerous albums where Tidal only has the MP3 to stream. usc95's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59694 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107239 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Control Audio Receiver volume from LMS
I don't know of a specific plugin that would work as you are requesting but I know there was one specifically for Denon receivers that offered some control of the receiver from LMS. I believe that it was called Denon Serial Plugin so if you are using a Denon AVR you may wish to google around for it and maybe someone can help you with that. I am able to control the volume for my Pioneer Elite SC-95 by using Airplay and Phillippe's airplaybridge plugin. That plugin turns my AVR into a "squeezebox" and I am able to control the volume through LMS with the Ipeng app on my iphone. I am not familiar with how the ir blaster plugin works but I believe you need original squeezebox hardware to use it. Good luck and let us know if you figure something out. ---- usc95's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59694 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106480 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Players drop out for no reason all the time
I have experienced many of these same issues over the years and I believe there were two primary reasons. First, if the router malfunctions then you will see similar behavior to what you have described. Next time the LMS drops off check your wifi and network with another connected device to make sure it is not the router losing connection. Second, I believe that Windows may be at fault for a lot of these disconnects. I do not have any expertise in computer networks or personal computing just my own experience. I have run LMS on a Windows machine since 2007 when I got my first SB3. When I ran it on Vista I had a few of these experiences but overall everything was pretty stable. When I upgraded to Windows 7 I started seeing these similar issues much more frequently, especially whenever security patches and other automatic windows "maintenance" was necessary. I reached the point where I quit using my Core2Duo desktop and started using an Atom powered "nettop" as my server also running Windows 7 as I thought my older machine may be at fault. This machine was completely dedicated to running LMS (nothing else) but even still it wasn't long before I once again began experiencing these same kinds of dropoffs. I then upgraded my desktop to an I5 based machine running Windows 10 and would see these dropoffs basically at least once every 2 weeks. Frequent rebooting of the LMS would be required to keep everything up and running even though I would make absolutely no changes to my network, firewall permissions or anything else. Finally, I have recently started running Max2play on a Raspberry Pi 2 as a test. I am happy to report that for the last three weeks since I started I have not seen my LMS drop off once in that time. I am also still running LMS on my Windows 10 machine and have seen it drop off a couple of times during this test. I believe that the simplicity of this little machine will be much more stable in the long run rather than dealing with the complexity and bloat of Windows. I realize it is early yet and my report is completely anecdotal but I am much happier now that I have started using the Raspberry for my server. ---- usc95's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59694 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106447 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Alexa and LMS - new lease of life?
I agree that "squeeze box" is a better keyword than "squeeze server". ---- usc95's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59694 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106149 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Alexa and LMS - new lease of life?
This would be awesome to get running. It would be great to tell Alexa to "play favorite 1" or "play favorite KCRW" or "play dinner music playlist". Play "squeeze server" does seem clunky and the controls indicated in the House Band skill mentioned earlier look to be more natural sounding. I would hope not to have to indicate the name of the squeezebox by number but maybe by a list of standardized names you could require? Names like "kitchen", "lounge", "living room", "bathroom", "bedroom" etc. instead of "squeezebox 1" or "squeezebox 2". While I could remember the numbers of the particular squeezeboxes I am sure my family members would not. usc95's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59694 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106149 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
