[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS scan does not detect MusicIP mixable tracks

2018-07-18 Thread Diana

I've been running LMS+MusicIP for years on Debian Wheezy, but decided a
few days ago that it was time to upgrade to Stretch. As my set up has
been stable for a very long time, I'm a bit rusty at configuring LMS and
MIP to work together, but I think I've done it right. MIP is running
before LMS starts. MIP shows the correct number of mixable tracks (so it
sees its database at Home/.MusicMagic/default.m3lib); and I have the
MusicIP pluggin enabled on LMS. But after a 'Clear library and rescan
everything', there are no items in the track context menus for creating
mixes.

I've been trawling through searches for a couple of days now, and I'm
completely stumped. I'd be very grateful for any advice about how to fix
this.

Info:
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.1 - 1523349116
Perl Version: 5.24.1 - i686-linux-gnu-thread-multi-64int
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Not sure if this helps. In my case I have to open::MusicMagic Server at
::http://localhost:10002/server and do a scan of MIP libraries before
the LMS scan

I'm not sure what you mean by 'do a scan of MIP libraries' here. Do you
mean 'Refresh Songs'?. I have done that, though it makes no obvious
difference to the LMS scan. (These days, I add music to my music folder
only very rarely.)

Probably obvious but MIP is activated in LMS?

understand how your setup ensures that mmserver starts before LMS. I've
looked carefully at the mmserver script, and rc.d installation that you
describe in the linked thread; and I've checked the current LMS script
and rc.d set up. I see that the LMS symlinks for 'start' in rc*.d are
all S07logitechmediaserver and your links put mmserver at S01mmserver.
So I'm assuming that's how your setup ensures that mmserver starts
first. Is that right?

I've looked at the output you posted from your LMS scan. I don't see
that 'MusicIP Import' section in my outputs. But is your output from a
scan for new/changed music, after you've added something that's been
analysed by MIP, and is that why you see the MIP Import section (for
only 274 of your 51425 tracks) and I don't? (I haven't added any new
music that MIP has analysed: I'm just doing 'Clear Library and rescan
everything' to try to pick up existing MIP-ed tracks. So LMS doesn't
need to import new data from MIP?)

It would be interesting to see what your output says if you do a 'Clear
Library and rescan everything' -after- you've scanned the newly-analysed
files. (Though I can understand why you might not want to rescan a
library of 51425 tracks just as an experiment! ;) )

slartibartfast & SlimChances >>> DOH! I have an abject apology to make:
I hadn't acutally turned on the MusicIP plugin. :(

I'd misunderstood (or misremembered) the default setting 'Don't Use
MusicIP' as meaning don't use it for title & genre information. I've
just clocked that that's actually the first of three items on the
pull-down, and not a default with the meaning I'd assumed. And I now
realise, with great embarrassment, that I should have selected 'Only use
mixable status from MusicIP'. I've done this, and, after a scan that has
imported the MIP information, I can now create mixes in LMS.

I am really grateful for your patient and generous efforts to help me,
and I'm really, really sorry to have wasted your time with a wild goose
chase resulting from my own stupidity.

MIP-headless on my Linux machines. Are you using the MIP GUI for the
analysis? And if I could get that running under WINE, could I use it to
archive the fingerprints to the music files? Or do you know of some
other effective way I could do the archiving? (I do worry about losing
the MIP database, though I do keep backups. But it seems a bit safer to
have the fingerprints archived in the music files.)

Yes I run the MusicIP GUI under windows. I would have thought you could
run the GUI under Linux.
The info in this link may help but it probably refers to a different
version of Linux.

I'd probably have to re-analyse the lot into a new MIP database, and

I have a vague recollection that Spicefly used to recommend using
GenPUID to archive fingerprints to their music files; but that's not
been maintained for ages, and I believe it's getting increasingly out of

think that archiving the fingerprints to my files at this stage is
probably more trouble than it's worth, and I'm just going to have to be
careful to make adequate backups of my default.m3lib! ;)

Many thanks for all your help.

I use MIP GUI in Wine and use the archive feature. I have been able to
transfer fingerprints with no problem to new installs with the same
music files. You do need to reload the archived directories into MIP Gui
again but it only takes a quick scan of a few minutes (I have 2
tracks in MIP)

Thanks, both, for these helpful replies. I think I agree with
slartibartfast, and only do it if necessary. But it's goot to know from
SlimChances that when it is necessary, it's possible to use the MIP GUI
to do it.

For now, though, I have a more serious problem. My newly-installed
Debian Stretch system has failed catastrophically, probably because
something I've installed or configured wasn't compatible with
systemd/sysv. Anyway, it looks like I'm going to have to do a complete
fresh install, and restore data in /home from a backup . A job
for tomorrow, I think!

Thanks again to both of you.
