My convention has been to stick with the name on the physical CD so there is a complete cross section of naming ... CD1, CD2, Disc 1, Disc 2, Volume 1, Volume 2 , etc. etc. I use mp3tag for tagging which contains a field identified as "Discnumber". In over 90% of my multi disc sets that label is blank for all discs within the set. In another 9.9% all discs in the set are identified in the "Discnumber" field as 1. Full disclosure - I've never paid much attention to this tag in the past - whatever came from the original rip from Exact Audio Copy has remained. This Moody Blues set was the only case in my library where the "Discnumber" label was 1 for CD1 and 2 for CD2 and was the only case where the (Disc 2 of 2) was appended. I cleared that field for both discs in mp3tag and rescanned and problem solved. What remains mysterious to me is why CD1 did not append (Disc 1 of 2) to its name in LMS with the original tags. OK - I checked and LMS is handling the Tidal multi disc sets as individual albums so that is great! However, my original problem with the naming of the Moody Blues album persists. It is the only case I have where I have replaced an earlier Tidal version with a version from my local library. Ah, you're more concerned about the "disc 1 of 2"? That's a LMS feature, and should be the same no matter whether it's an online album or local. You won't find that in the tags. Can you double check the metadata in those files? LMS' logic behind this feature is quite... complex :-). Eg. if "Disc" was part of the title already, it wouldn't add the disc number. It is showing this 2 disc set as two albums. The problem is the album name. The first disc is named properly "This Is The Moody Blues (CD1)". The second disc is not named properly. It should be labelled as "This Is The Moody Blues (CD2)". Instead it is labelled "This Is The Moody Blues (CD2) (Disc 2 of 2)". The appended (Disc 2 of 2) seems to be a carryover from the Tidal version label. The album has been removed from my favorite albums in Tidal and I have checked the tags in mp3tag and there is no reference to (Disc 2 of 2). I am assuming your test was with Tidal versions of this album. In the past the Tidal version of multi disc sets were displayed in LMS as a single album with an appended (Disc 2 of 2) on the album name regardless of the choice made by the user under the "Group Discs" menu selection. If I understand your comment this has been fixed with the latest LMS version so the Tidal versions will now display as two albums?? I think my particular problem is related to having an earlier Tidal version and then replacing it with a version from my local library. Will this also work on multi disc albums on Qobuz? Right now going through boxsets pretty much gives you just a super long playlist with no way of knowing what disc you're on. Thanks. Loaded the latest build followed by a complete clear and rescan of the library and the problem still seems to be there. What exact revision are you using? With "group discs" enabled I get one album for your Moody Blues case, without that option it's two. I chose for CD1 - This Is The Moody Blues (CD1) but for CD2 it displays This Is The Moody Blues (CD2) (Disc 2 of 2). It seems to be appending the "Disc 2 of 2" from the Tidal album name. I have checked the tags and I believe this is fixed in the next 8.0.1 build. I have since tried unfavoriting the album in Tidal, removing the album from my local library and rescanning and then adding it back in and rescanning again and LMS still displays the wrong album name for CD2. Any ideas on a solution? I can confirm there's an issue with multi-disc online albums. We would have information about the disc number, but the path does not change, nor is the album ID.
