[squid-users] squid3 with dansguardian in non-transparent mode
Hi All, I'm having squid 3.0 running on my Ubuntu 8.04 server in n NON-transperant mode. (I want it that way). I'm trying to configure the Dansguardian as a content filtering and restricting access to unwanted sites, for which I've installed Dansguardian 2.9.9.7 The DansGuardian is also seem to be configured. But it is not doing the filtering. can someone tell me how to link it with squid3 in a non-transparent mode? I'm checking with google, but everyone is talking about the transparent proxy with iptables. I don't want to do all this things. I want to configure it in non-transparent mode itself. so just want to link it with squid3 so that it works. ~~~~~~ Sameer Shinde. M:- +91 98204 61580 Every man is the architect of his own fortune.

I'll surely try this out, but not now. A little letter. I checked the demo of this site. but not satisfied with the kind of reports it shows. Whatever reports it shows are good, I'm not doubting on it. But We need some more detail reports, like which file downloads, which user has downloaded it? The graphical representation of the user status These things are good in sarg. My only problem in the sarg is, I've to run the sarg manually every-time to update the database. If I can automate this process, with crontab, which I'll do in any way, for a specific time intervals most of my problems get resolved. At present I'm trying to schedule it for 5 min interval, which later I'll reduce to 1 min or even lesser. :) ~~ Sameer Shinde. M:- +91 98204 61580 Think Pink Live Green..!

[squid-users] allowing restricted sites via squid
Hi All, We are using squid along with squidguard to block the websites. Now due to company policy we've blocked all the emial sites with squidguard blacklist, wherein we've also blocked gmail.google.com Now, our company has purchesed domain name specifice mail address from google. for example mail.ourdomain.com, wherein if anyone types mail.ourdomain.com it will be redirected to ourdoman specific gmail. The problem here is as squidguard is blocking gmail.google.com and which is inturn backbehind mail.ourdomain.com, the users are not able to access that site. What we want to do now is, we still want to block gmail access, but if someone goes thru mail.ourdomain.com, then he should get the access to gmail. How can we achive this? [squid-users] which stable version should one use
Hi All, Whenever I visit squid-cache.org site. I always have a doubt is, why there are multiple stable version available for production release? What i mean is, when there is 3.0 stable release is available for production, then still why 2.7 is available. I can understand that, older versions should be available to the users, but then it may come under older version head not in the current versions list. Other thing is, when there is a latest version available, what is the need of develpment in the older version. i.e when we've ver3.0 then why 2.8. All the patches, bug fixes, new additions can be done in the newer release then why ver2.8? Is there any specific reason for that? If yes, then which version one should use? Because all the versions give you production release. I also have observed that, even after publishing the stable version on site, they withdraw the older stable version, do something & again put back. My question is, if you withdraw any software version for any reason, it does not become a stable version. If anyone is doing some bug fixing into it or even a minor change of code, it should appear in the latest stable release. This gives you a track of bugs & bugfixes. But if you takeback any stable release and put it again after some time. What does it mean? If it was stable why it was taken back? If not does it really justify the stability? For e.g. At this moment , the squid3.0 stable 10, stable3, stable 2 are withdrawn. Some peoples find my questions silly, but I've a doubt and its always better ask instead of knowing nothing. And I'm also sure, many of ours must have asked this question to themself, but never been answered. ~~ Sameer Shinde. [squid-users] time restrictions in squid3
Hi All, I'm using squid3.0 stable1 on my ubuntu 8.0.4 server along with squidGuard1.3 for blocking. I want to puu the time restrictions for the users, for that I addup the rule as follows in my squid.conf acl work_hrs time M T W H F A 09:00-17:00 acl our_network work_hours but still I found that the users can use the net beyond this time slot. How can I enable the time restrictions for the users. (This happens with/without squidguard and squidguard is no way related to it.) Now one thing I've observed is that, all my users in network are having GMT+5.30 time. Even my squid server is having the same time as of my network. i.e GMT+5.30 but the squid error logs shows me only GMT. Now I know that, squid by default shows the GMT & not any other time in default logs. But then is this a problem for me to apply the restrictions. RE: [squid-users] changing time in squid
How to upgrade the squid in Ubuntu 8.0.4 as I tried to update /upgrade the squid but it is not going beyond the latest installed version. I tried to download & install the source code from the squid site but I'm getting the configuration error. the squid on ubuntu runs with proxy:proxy as a default user:group. Whereas the squid uses squid:squid as user:group which I'm not able to configure. Also the default install location of squid is in /etc/squid in ubuntu where as in squid default it is something else. Due to all such problems I'm not able to upgrade the squid to the latest version, rather if I can be able to resolve these issues, I would be very glad to move to the latest stable version. I hope someone can give me way out of it. ~~~ Thanks & Regards, Sameer Shinde. RE: [squid-users] errors while opening sites
Amos, The negative_ttl was set to Defaults, which I've now set to 0. The negative_dns_ttl is unset ( as a Default), so I've not made any changes in this. Let's see if this works. > Also check that they are actually being generated by your own squid, your didn't understand this...? > upstream ISP may be having trouble with an old transparent proxy. Do u mean this is an old proxy, as I've updated all the packages for Ubuntu from there repository site. & 2.6 is the only latest version which I could get. Although I know, in real it is not the latest version, as the latest stable version of squid is 3.0 stable 10, to which I want to anyway update. But I was waiting to resolve this problem 1st & once everything works properly, I wanted to upgrade it to 3.0 So far I'm searching for the documentation for, how to upgrade the squid 3.0 in ubuntu as some parameters are changed in Ubuntu & I need to do the customized installation. Anyone Correct me if I'm wrong. ~~~ Thanks & Regards, Sameer Shinde. RE: [squid-users] errors while opening sites
Remy, I'm using /etc/resolv.conf file & have two entries in it. like nameserver 10.0.0.1 nameserver 10.0.0.2 & tried to check the time host which is somewhere in the range of 48-50, which seems reasonably o.k. I'm also using the default cache size, which I want to increase to some extend. But I'm sure this is not a cache issue. Its surely something related to DNS name resolution problem. ~~~ Thanks & Regards, Sameer Shinde. RE: [squid-users] errors while opening sites
Dear Amos, Thanks for the reply. We are using the same DNS servers for our existing proxy server which is ISA2000 & is working properly without any problems. We want to shift from MS-ISA2000 proxy server to Linux Squid proxy server, so we are building up this new proxy server. More over if I access the internet from the Ubuntu proxy server itself, we don't get any such errors. Can you / anyone let me know how can we resolve these issue. Also for your information that, so far ubuntu server is just a member server in our enviornment & there is no DNS server configured in Ubuntu server. May be this will help you for finding some outputs. ~~~ Thanks & Regards, Sameer Shinde.
