[squid-users] How to Squid-Websense

2005-03-02 Thread sania maro
Hi everybody,

I'd like to integrate squid to websense. I have
installed squid in a RedHat 9 machine and websense in
Windows 2003 server.
I can't find any documentation that descripes the
integration steps. Do you know how may I do this.

Thanks a lot.

I have never separated websense like that - I have it all running on the
same solaris box with squid. At a guess you need to install some of the
components onto the linux machine - I think the bits you need are the
policy server... or maybe just the integration needs to be installed.
I have installed websense a few times but I normally just put it all on
the squid box...

Thanks for your response.
But we already have websense in a windows machine, and
I am asked to install squid in a separate redhat
machine and then integrate websense with squid.

There is websense connector whcih should be installed in squid proxy
server, and in squid.conf should be defined redirector as helper outside
of squid program which is in this case this connector.

Fw: [squid-users] How to Squid-Websense

2005-03-02 Thread Kelly_Connor

We are running Websense 5.5 on RH9 with all components, but we used to only
run the redirector to a Win2K Server. If you just want squid to run the
redirector, you do the following:
Have squid running prior to all of this, without any user authentication at
this point.

Create a folder called /tmp/Websense551
Put your Websense551Setup_Lnx.tar.gz file in your /tmp/Websense551 and
un-tar it.
cd to /tmp/Websense551, run ./install.sh.

This is an installshield wizard, so it's pretty simple. The install does
get redundant in its questions, sometimes.
You will be doing a custom installation. You will choose to only do an
integration install, and install the Websense plugin for squid.

This should be option #4 during the custom install.
You will be prompted for the IP address of your policy server and filtering
server (the Win2K3 box), as well as the port. Check your in-house
configurations and the Websense manual in pdf form for the Win2K3
installation.

The installshield will automatically update your squid.conf with the
redirector information.

Hope this helps, if not, let me know. I know politics are often involved,
but if you can swing it, you should really run the whole thing on one box
if possible. It is much cleaner, and can still be administrated via the
gui console from a windows client.

You need to install the websense plug-in for squid in
every proxy server that you want to communicate with
websense.
To install this plug-in, you need to run the websense
setup program for linux on the server proxy, then
choose "iegrated" as setup type...

You have to log on to the websense website with your subscription key and
download the linux installer for websense.

Run the install.sh from the tarball on the squid box, but select custom
install, integration, integrate with squid cache server.

You don't need to install Websense and Squid on the Same machine,
in terms of latency will be great but regarding perfomance it will suck :! :(

But it is related to the websense 5.5 version.

I think your network configuration may look like the

I tryed to do the same thing but when I enter the IP

I still can't solve this problem.
So if your installation will succeed, please let me

Yes, install the policy server on the linux machine and push the policy
to the linux machine. I am not entirely sure why you don't want to do
this. At the risk of sounding like a Websense salesdroid, the Websense
infrastructure is quite flexible and can be distributed quite well. You
_can_ centralise your policy management and push the policy to the
squid proxies. You _don't_ have to run the network agent on the same machine,
you _can_ send your logs to the win2k machine. Why do you both insist on
making the win2k box do everything when it does not need to?

I personelly don't want to install the server policy
or other websense components on the same box as the
proxy server just because I have websense already
running on a w2k3 machine. i don't want to change the
architecture already implemented.

Thanks fr your suggestion.

same here. Politics keep me from doing that. I still can't seem to get
around this error. I have sent to Websense and am awaiting answer.

You have my commiserations but it seems ridiculous that you are not allowed
to install the software in a configuration what works I suppose it's a
great excuse to get ISA, "that squid stuff just doesn't work, let's use ISA
instead". I know that sense does not need to prevail - I am sorry for you.

Hopefully they can sort you out or at least give you some backing for
getting the solution architected properly. I have found the Websense
people to be very responsive.

2005-03-10 Thread Corey Tyndall
I finally got the redirector to install by doing a typical install and
choosing to intergrate with squid using a universal integration. The
redirector was installed and the code was placed into my squid.conf
file. What configurations do I need to make now to make the redirector
work? Thanks again

Re: Fw: [squid-users] How to Squid-Websense

2005-03-02 Thread sania maro
Thank you very much for your consideration.

I actually want squid to redirect parameters (that it
saves in its cache directory) to the websense server
(installed on W2k3).

So you think that I need to install the websense
plugin for squid on the proxy server. Then squid will
be able to redirect parameters to the websense server?

Do I need to add any configuration to the websense
server?

Thanks a lot.

You do not have to run Squid on the same machine, it can be on Solaris, Linux,
or 2K.

That link does not work for me. Is the whole link there? Also you do not have
to run websense on the linux box right? I just want to redirect trafic to the
websense server that is running on a W2k box.

>>> "sania maro" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 03/07/05 11:45AM >>>
You need to install the websense plug-in for squid in every proxy server that
you want to communicate with websense.
To install this plug-in, you need to run the websense setup program for linux
on the server proxy, then choose "iegrated" as setup type...
Here is a complete guide on integrating squid with
websense:
