[squid-users] IE6 SP1 Bug NTLM

2003-10-27 Thread Jay Turner
Hi All,

I'm aware of the bug in IE 6 SP1 when using Basic Authentication, I was just
wondering if anyone knows if NTLM (winbind) can be affected by it.

I have a client using Squid and NTLM via winbind who has some IE6 SP1
clients exhibiting this same behaviour (Page not returned initially but
pressing refresh then displays the page).

I'm trying to determine if it is the IE6 bug or possibly a DNS issue.

Thanks
Jay

The hotfix which was available for some time reportedly broke NTLM to fix
Basic.. this was even documented in the KB articles referring to this
hotfix.

I am not sure what the status is with the current IE6 update pack
available via Windows Update, but I hope they have got that small detail
corrected..

A ngrep of the client traffic tells pretty quickly where the problem is..
and in any case, you should not be receiving such error pages if it is a
DNS issue. On DNS issues you SHOULD receive an error page from Squid.

If you have not already disabled Show user friendly error messages in
the IE internet options then I highly recommends to do so. Microsoft has
really gone to their extreme in protecting users from the evil error
messages given by Internet servers by replacing all error messages with
their own an error occured error template saying nothing and none
about the actual cause of the error..
