I can only guess, but M$IE configured to show friendly HTTP error messages changes received content to it's own error page (saying nothin, thus fucking things up) if it's smaller than 512 bytes. No, this is used by Apache to work around an ancient Netscape browser bug. Newer versions will not have this header anymore (see e.g. http://www.nabble.com/Remove-the-workaround-for-Netscape-bug-td20847818.html) Joost

Thanks. X-Pad is a random header somebody added. Means nothing. Something very strange is going on anyway. The Via header says HTTP/3.0 is being used. There is no such version of HTTP.
