[squid-users] Disk space over limit Warning

2008-11-27 Thread Wilson Hernandez - MSD, S. A.

Hello;

I currently have a network with about 30 users and my swap space tends
to fill up quite quickly. I increased the swap three weeks ago from:

#cache_dir ufs /var/log/squid/cache 5000 16 256 to
cache_dir ufs /var/log/squid/cache 1 255 255

Now, I'm getting the same warning:

2008/11/27 13:59:00| WARNING: Disk space over limit: 10241036 KB
1024 KB

If I leave it as is will I have problems in the future or should I
change it to what? What is a safe size for this?

Thank you in advanced for all your help.

Hi Wilson,

Did you run squid -z after changing your settings? For themto take
effect, I believe you need to run squid -a again.

Yes. I did run squid -z and it created all the directories.

Hello Lawrence,

This might be swap.state has been corrupted. Such corruption can
occur on unexpected system shutdowns (power failure, kernel panic etc).

You can try with the following

1. Shut down squid.

2. Remove the swap.state files from your cache directories.

3. Start Squid again. It will rebuild swap.state from the cache
files.

Nothing, it not seen too much, don't bother. Squid will trim the cache
according to the specified cache dir size(s).

1 Better to check your disk space where you cache_dir fall with df -h.
2 After editing cache_dir send SIGHUP sginal to your squid process to read
conf file again.
3 which 2.5 version u using for squid.
4 Also check your logs regarding squid or other application may be they
fall same par...ion where you squid cache_dir live. may be they are filling

It normally means that there was more data in the cache directory than
the cache_dir tag specified. In your case the negative number may
indicate a problem with 2GB limits on filesystems.

So why don't you post your cache_dir tag(s) from your squid.conf. You
should also see if you have specified soemthing large than 2GB on a
filesystem that can't exceed 2GB.

what does this mean? i thought it automatically flushes old
  cache to make room
  for the new ones.

It normally means that there was more data in the cache directory than
the cache_dir tag specified. In your case the negative number may
indicate a problem with 2GB limits on filesystems.

So why don't you post your cache_dir tag(s) from your squid.conf. You
should also see if you have specified soemthing large than 2GB on a
 filesystem that can't exceed 2GB.

here is my cache_dir tag:

cache_dir aufs /var/proxy 2000 16 256

running 'df -h' shows me that i still have 8GB of available disk space on my
/var partition. and i'm using reiserfs on it. anything i can do to fix it?
thanx for your time.
