[squid-users] Squid through another proxy.

2004-04-10 Thread Ordinary Man
Dear all,
I have set up squid to use another proxy by inserting the following lines
into the squid.conf file...
  cache_peer 10.0.0.27 parent 8080 0 no-query
  prefer_direct off

I expect this to use other proxy i.e.10.0.0.27 unless it is down in whcih
case it can choose an alternative. however what squid does is that it sends
some requests to 10.0.0.27 and some directly. Could anyone kindly eplain why
squid si doing this?

if i use
   cache_peer 10.0.0.27 parent 8080 0 no-query default
   acl all_r src 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0
   never_direct allow all_r
then squid works only through the other proxy...

what i want to do is to tell squid to use another route if and only if the
10.0.0.27 proxy is down or is up but can't furnish requests and results in
time outs

awaiting response.
thanks in advance.
Toru.

Maybe Squid FAQ 4.9 How do I configure Squid forward all requests to
another proxy? http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ-4.html#ss4.9>

2004-03-18 Thread Montervino, Mariano
We are using Squid 2.5 stable5 through another proxy server call middleman
because the last one could filter popups and adverts.
We redirect squid request using the cache peer feature.
"cache_peer 127.0.0.1 parent 3128 3130 login=*:password proxy-only"

The problem is that when we try browsing some site like yahoo.com or some
others the page never download and the browser still waiting...

This dont happend if we configure the browser to point directly the second
proxy (middleman). So we suspect that the problem is the comunication
between the proxies.

We need some help-

Many people have reported success in SOCKSifying Squid using runsocks and
similar wrappers.

Hi
I know we can configure squid to work through another proxy. Can we make squid work
through another socks server. Or is there a way to use a socks server for internet
sharing.
