Hi,

Can we narrow down the specific bug behaviour? I'll fire it off to
someone in the IE team and see what 'e says.

 Two tcpdumps have been submitted.
Let me know if you need more specific information, and I will provide
it.

I would like to know where we are on this bug... Are we able to find any
clues why the DVD files are not getting downloaded through Squid?

It appears to be an IE bug, not Squid.

Have you tried Henrik's suggestion in his previous post?

Here is a simple test. Configure MSIE to use the web server you have
trouble to download the file from. Then try downloading the file.

Hi,

Open the proxy preferences screen of your browser. Enter ftp.suse.com

Please find the observations on DVD download issue...

As this ISO has been removed from the FTP site itself
http://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/current/iso/SUSE-10.0-EvalDVD-i386-GM
.iso

I am using the below URL for downloading the DVD ISO
URL:
http://download.novell.com/protected/Summary.jsp?buildid=N1YveG_t53Y~

1. Download failed even when directly connected to internet (From 0 it
immediately jumps to 100).
2. Changed the browser settings to cdn.novell.com on Port 80. This
started to download the file but the status bar shows the value in
negative (-5% downloaded) which is quite confusing.

You still think this is a Squid problem and not an MSIE problem?

What's the result if you try with Firefox 1.5 or later?

the internet explorer has a different behaviour, if you configure a
proxy or not.
We had some issues with https sides with authentication and a proxy,
and the wrong behaviour came from internet explorer.

Please try some different browsers and then you will see, that the

When IE6 is setup to use proxy (squid), and the aforementioned file is
downloaded, a download window opens and the progress indicator zips to
100% in the first second after which IE announces that the download is
complete. What the user really has is a file with a size equivalent to
the effective kbps of their internet pipe.

When IE6 is setup *not* to use proxy, and the same file is downloaded,
the behaviour is as expected and the resulting file is the correct
size.

Two tcpdumps have been submitted.

Let me know if you need more specific information, and I will provide it.

Henrik,

If anyone is in doubt and having this problem, try using squidclient
to
 fetch the file

  squidclient 'http://...' http_response

As per your suggestion I tried to pull the http_response but there is no
http headers in it... It has only Connection to failed

# smbclient
http://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/current/iso/SUSE-10.0-EvalDVD-i386-GM.
iso http_response

# more http_response

Connection to failed

then send me the HTTP headers found in the beginning of http_response.

alternatively if that does not convince you, capture the data stream
 Squid - MSIE with tcpdump -p -i any -w data.pcap host ip.of.client

I have captured the data stream using tcpdump
tcpdump -p -i any -w data.pcap host 10.249.192.76

Kindly let me know how I can send this file to you...

I just tried that link with IE6, and it started downloading. The

15 seconds and it definitely was downloading something. Canceled it
after about 4 MB had downloaded.
I'm running Squid 2.6Stable5, but it's the Debian Etch version, so it

Could the problem be a combination of changes made in Squid and patches

Confirmed this problem *does* exist on IE6 behind Squid by attempting
to download a suse 10.x DVD image some 3454MB in size. Download
indicator went form 0% to 100% in less than a second and confirmed a
download size of 554 bytes in 1 sec.

Confirmed this problem *does not* exist on IE7 behind Squid. Same file
started at the same time and the download indicator tells me I can
expect a 2:42 wait with the current download rate of 355 KB/sec (Not
bad for a 512kbps DSL).

Seems to work fine with Squid-2.6 64-bits.

Building a 32-bit binary to test... Seems fine there as well.

So try upgrading to 2.6 to see if that helps. Current version is
2.6.STABLE12. If it still fails please provide the following

1. Ouput of squid -v

2. The HTTP headers of the response. Can be seen by running
  squidclient
'http://h30317.www3.hp.com/downloads/RDP350.iso?ordernumber=361694666itemid=1downloadid=32163034merchantId=SW_DEPOT'
 | head -15

You can also try building your Squid with support for large cache files
(configure flag). Might help, even if it shouldn't really make a
difference..

Regards
Henrik

Hi all,

I am facing issues in downloading files which are more than 2 GB in Size. We
tried downloading an ISO DVD image of size more than 2 GB which is failing via
Squid Proxy but I am able to download the same if I bypass the proxy server. It
doesn't display any errors on the screen instead it ends in downloading just 1
KB. I am using squid-2.5.STABLE13.

Henrik,

Please find the version details of my Squid

# /usr/local/squid/sbin/squid -v
Squid Cache: Version 2.6.STABLE12
configure options: '--prefix=/usr/local/squid'
'--enable-large-cache-files'
#

As per your suggestion I compiled the build to support large cache files
(--enable-large-cache-files)...

But still nothing seems to be working on my way. It's all resulting
same.

Hi Sathyan,
This is a known issue in all versions of squid.
  http://www.squid-cache.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=437

Luckily one of the other developers happens to be working on a fix for
it right now. If you are interested in testing give him a yell out.

Not all.. was fixed in Squid-2 for the 2.5.STABLE10 release.

That's Squid-3..

there is no known issues with 2GB objects with 2.5.STABLE10 or later,
but it's also not very frequently tested, and additionally my box where
most Squid-2 testing is done is a 64-bit box which gets away with most
of these silly limitations..

Henrik,

there is no known issues with 2GB objects with 2.5.STABLE10 or later

But I use squid-2.5.STABLE13 which is having this problem. So could you
please elaborate on the parameters which we need to use for avoiding
this issue...
